| If I adjust my servo travel points to maintain a good idle it might engauge the clutch

Yea, that is not a good idea. You need to use the trim to maintain an idle Here is how I do it(assuming the rod linkage is correct, and everything is at 90). 1) disconnect the linkage 2) turn the trim all the way down (throttle) 3) place the throttle stick all the way down 4) turn the rx on 5) adjust the endpoint so that the linkage fits on the ball, fully closing the carb with no binding. 6) Now go to full throttle, adjust the endpoint so that the linkage fits on the ball, holding the throttle fully open without binding. 7) snap the linkage on. 8) adjust the trim so that the carb is slightly open (I don't know the exact degree here.) On the JR radio, I start the heli with the throttle trim in the middle and then slide it down to about one quarter. That gives me a nice idle without engaging the clutch. 8a) On the Futaba radio you have a kill switch, and the trim is digital. You'll just have to give it a couple clicks on the trim? I use the Futaba for the electrics
tuning the engine, that is a tuff one. I have three OS50, the first two. I did little to nothing and they ran, and still run great. The last one that I purchased is giving me fits. I'm not that great at tuning engines, but here is what little I know; 1) The pinch test, after starting the engine pinch the fuel line closed. The engine should run for 3 to 5 seconds. To long and it is to rich, to short and it is to lean. Adjust the low end to get it around 3 to 5 seconds. 2) now the high end. first you want to get it to transition from idle to hover smoothly. Again I am assuming that you have a proper pitch and throttle curve, and the governor is off. 3)Attempt to transition from idle to hover, if it stalls it is either to rich or to lean. Yea, I know? but that is what the manual says. I have found with the OS50, to start the high end about 1.5 turns out. Then start leaning it in, a couple of clicks at a time. Till you get a smooth transition.
PS if the engine gets too hot, stop, else all of your tunning efforts will be wasted. And always check to make sure the muffler is on tights, and there are no air leaks.
You might also go to Raptor Technique, he has a tunning section there. And club members are the best. My best suggestion is to go to the club member with the smoothest running engine and ask for help and pick his brain while you are at it.
