Twice the price, but looks to be a very well thought out and executed heli. Haven't seen finished machining like this on any heli to date, even on aftermarket parts (including the avant head).

and will be available soon (famous last words, heh).

You can't kill a ghost. But the Aurora is supposed to be designed for simplicity and function. That thing looks like it was designed around function and simplicity be damned.

I dont know what looks so difficult about it. It has single stack frames,normal compliment of bolts to hold it together, a self aligning clutch. All of those things are aimed at simplicity in design and function. I can't wait to see one perform in person. It looks to be a very promising airframe. Without throwing one around noone can comment on performance but that will come soon.

Its not that it looks difficult. Just looks like a high part count for what it does. But you are right, it should be seen and flown in person. Hard to tell from the 3D pics. The servo mounts look overly busy.

You don't even have to remove a frame to access the drivetrain. Just remove an access panel and you can drop the motor and drivetrain.

Depends on if you use them or not.. The servo mount shown is typical of all highend machines with the servo shaft holder. It is deffinitely a unique mount but nothing different than others use. We shall see though, matter of fact I cant wait for a US distributor to carry them.. I just may have to try it out.

Yes, It's a better servo holder than the MA design. It will probably be out before the Aurora anyway .

The web page says 28th of August, we'll see soon enough hopefully. The Aurora is supposed to be out any day now. I know many have heard that before but we've now seen the box its supposed to come in

My only concern is it may not be carried in US shops for awhile, hopefully a US distributor picks it up soon after it's release.

HAHA pretty bold statements First Aurora killer!! Cant kill what doesn't exist with what doesn't exist.

Then followed up by Don't think so!! There is no way to know that since technically they both don't exist except in very small numbers to the very talented of the crop.

Only time will tell and I am betting both machines, fly excellent, and have their share of pluses and minuses

lol, I knew the topic title would raise some eyebrows. I shoulda been a tabloid writer.

here's some more eyecandy. I have always disliked anti-rotation brackets for their crudeness. Check out the elevator arm on the Avro.

No need to get defensive with the Aurora. But this does look very nice.

The gearing system is definately different. With the belt and all, it looks to be very smooth. Might require more power from the engine though.

I have owned a Avant with prog head (Best heli I have ever owned)and with two machines side by side I know the Avro is easier to work on. Dave could get his engine in and out by the time I got the DTI gauge setup.

kit price in the UK, Aurora £799, AVRO (website) £899, Not double the price as some posts have stated!

superbly engineered, even some F1 engineering companies involved. Similar to the Aurora, Simplicity and parts pricing is the key ... i.e

1. All the frame bolts are the same length. (less spacers in the frame (no clutch bearing blocks))
2. No DTI'ing the clutch at all.
3. realistic (IMO) more options on the head over the programmable. i.e. stop lead lag and float with different inserts and no binding on all setup options.
4.Option for F3C head or rigid 3D head with bearing placement.
5. Designed for 3D and F3C (At F3C worlds as we speak.)
6. Totally unique isolated gyro, switch and servos/mounts(unlike other machines where the servo mount is still bolted to machine)
6. Parts count are around the same for both machines.

As I know the Aurora will be a great machine and I too originally placed a deposit. I got tired of waiting and have now opted for a Avro, with a date in my calendar

I suggest the following car analogy:

Avant -> Ferrari F50 (minimalist, lightweight)
Avro -> Aston Martin DB9 (well engineered, refined)

I don't think I would complain if I had either.

I think the double the price refference is in comparison of our dollar to the pound.. It will cost us a little shy of double the price to own one over this side of the big pond..

I agree about the anti rotation bracket.. The elevator control on the Avro has a very striking similarity to the QUK elevator control for the V-Max, very top shelf and best of all no anti rotation bracket required.

So to spell Aurora, it would be spelled A-V-R-O...

It probably has a lower parts count than the Aurora. Lets be honest the aurora needs 4 bearing blocks just to get the tail drive sorted. And the only reason it's twice the price is because the Dollar has gone to rat ****, but is only costs £100 more in the UK.

You can have the greatest heli in the world.
Nothing is worth the price for the "greatest heli in the world" if you don't have product and parts support nearby.

I guess this is a UK based company?
If they are pushing for a 28 August release, for sure there is a list of dealers that will be carrying it by now.

Like the Synergy, if I can't get the parts at a reasonable price, why should I want one?
