| The flybarless monster arises again...Flybarless is NOT new...It seems to come into & out of style every 10 or so years...
If you've been into RC helis for more than 15 years, you should remember the GMP legend...It was the killer machine when it first came out...no flybar...super quick...etc... It also had some bad habits due to the flybarless head as well... In fast forward flight, if you cut power, the nose would kick up hard...it tended to be rather pitchy in flight also...but it auto'd great and was fast as heck...
Many guys bought them and actually learned to handle the bad habit and had really nice flying Legends...This was done without all the electronic assistance folks are playing with today...Computer radios were just starting to show up, all the gyros were mechanical, & 61's were the "big" motors!
I'm sure Curtis' design will be much better than what we had back then...It's got to be...The equipment we use now is soooo much better.
Just keep in mind it's all a trade-off...What you lose in mechanical complexity you will gain in electronic complexity. There's no such thing as a free lunch -ChrisW |
