Henseleit 3DNT - Rocket - 3DMP > Which data recorder for my MP XL E?

I am very happy with my first flys with my new MP XL E.

This heli has a 12S pack- 4.700 mAh - 20C to 30C discharge, an Actro 32-3 motor and A Contorler Kontronic Jazz 63 V.

Would you imagine that I want to know what's going on when it is up there?

But I don't know which data recorder to choose.

The Medusa or Eagletrees products do not seems enough to me.

What would you think of the BNB product : the DPR II 150.

Have someone test it before?

Many thanks

Hi JPB

Have tried both, the best model is the Eagle, my opinion

I have made a double order from Australian this spring, and selling the Eagletree, only used 3 times and still as good as new.
I can send You a picture of the box kit if interested

Hi SSC,

I see on the web site of Eagletrees-micropower E logger this:
'Logs pack current to +/- 100 amps and voltage from about 4.5 volts to 45 volts '
So, as my pack could deliver 50V at full charge and up to 30x4.7=141A in peaks, I wonder if... I shouldn't use it rather to fry my eggs?
But then, what about their Seagull?
I don't find its caracteistics and I don't get an answer to the mail I sent them.
And the price is somewhat different...

May I ask you why you prefer the Eageltrees compared to the BNB DPR?

Thanks

IMHO, I prefer the DPR-II 150. I had both and I just sold the Eagle Tree.
I found that the graphics are more clear and detailled on the DPR and the new BNB product go up to 65 Volts (9750 Watts !!)

Hi

Well I have only used the data for a 10S setup, and the reading will need some attention anyway, I don’t see that the graphics are more clear and detailed vs Eagel.

The trust on the Bench testing are the readings, but one ting is for
me sure, the quality and setup goes for the Eagel

I simple don’t trust the reading I have measured from the DPR(Model 100) when compared with the Eagel, but someone will take it as it is for sure

My opinion is that the DPR is a low budget product – sorry

I've heard the accuracy on the Eagle Tree is questionable.

I have the Medusa Oracle and the DPR-II 150.

The DPR-II is just simple to use and it works great.

The Oracle software is a bit more complicated to use and not overly intuitive.

You will not ever pull that much current. High count lipos do not need to pull as many amps as 6s or 8s packs do.

My XLE/Actro 32-4/Kontronik Powerjazz/Flightpower 20c 12s setup pulls under 100A at 12 degrees of pitch. Logged by my eagletree.

So at least you know I'm not theorizing and this info is from actual experience.

lol. Well, if it helps, the 3DMP is just an airframe, have to save $$$ for all the electronics.

Did you get on Jan's waiting list?

G'day mates,

I follow these MP XL E threads a bit just because I'm sure I will get one eventually. That is, if Jan actually ever produces enough of them, including spares. These have to be the sexiest looking 90 sized E-heli's on the planet!

Of course if I get one it will have to run it on 15s (3x5s1p Evo25 3700's, think they will fit ok), like one of my current Ion-x's. Heh, if you have a 15s PowerJazz esc, why not use it? I'd probably use an Actro 32-4 max motor.

Anyway, the main purpose of this post is to point out that the PowerJazz instuction manual clearly states that you should not use any in-line monitoring systems. They recommend that if you want to monitor amps, you should use a clamp-on device. I'm pretty sure that they (Kontroniks) are worried that the in-line feedback signals may actually erase/modify esc settings.

One of my very good 3D flying mates with a 10s e-Razor and tango 45-08/Jazz 55-10-32 esc recently was getting a few in-flight shutdowns. He mangaged to auto a few in ok, with little damage, but got a lot of damage on a couple of these shutdowns. He removed the Eagletree system a few weeks ago and has not had any problems since.

I was waiting to get one of the new Eagletree 70v systems for my 15s set-up when it comes out next month (mid Nov) but now I'm not too sure what to do.

Prior to this, I have just been using an on-board wattsup meter for occasional tests (with non-kontronik escs, I might add) but these units are only good to 50v (barely 12s rated)so I have not been able to use it on my 15s (63v) set-up anyway.

It seems to me I could use the current Eagletree with a separate battery power supply and use their clamp-on high amp add-on and optical rpm add-on. I would not be able to measure volts and mahr usage, but at least I could monitor amps and rpm which should give me a good idea of watt's going on. My charger is telling me what I put back into the packs anyway.

Any suggestions or alternatives? Thanks.

Cheers,
Tom C

I have not had any problems with the Eagletree. There is no warning in the manual regarding in line monitoring that I can recall. I will find the manual and verify. That being said, I only use the logger when I'm testing new batteries, blades or pinions.

Laughingstill: I will email Jan and ask about the xle production.
