Last Sunday after weeks of practice on my simulator I try to do the PiroFlips, I managed to do a few good ones the on my second flight I did one piroflip ending up side down. I start to correct position pulling stick back (elevator) then was a noise explotion one blade stop so I turn engine off while the heli drop from 300 feet.
After an inspection I notice a Boom strike one of the double links was broke the one on the blade that hit the boom.
Firts I blame on the doble link bud I did some research and I found two more cases one in florida and other in UK.
They said this problem happens because the dampers give and the blades when you pull back get closer to the boom.
I'm fixing my raptor this week, replacing the dampers for new ones then I will try againg.
If this don't work then I will extent the mast 1cm.
If any doing real tough 3D ?... any report on this incident... or is only three isolated cases.
thanks for any input or Ideas

Boom StrikeIs this a new V2 50 or and older V1 50? If it is a new V2 50 there is no possibly way the dampener can be worn out already. Most probably cause would be the blade were to loose in the grips, and a eng boug from to much cyclic input made the blade swing fwd, then down to the boom. Tighten them blades in the grips pretty tight.

And it was also flown by someone who is very good at piro flips
I've seen the mid air boom strike a couple of times on the Raptor 30. With the new V2 head on the 50, I would doubt you could hit the boom even if you tried. There is a big difference in the rigidness between the two. With the V1 it would definately be a possiblity. Also as stated above, make sure your blades are real tight too.

How tight do the blades have to be?

I personally make mine pretty dang tight. You shouldn't be able to hold the ship sideways and have them move. I would tightened them down enough so if you shook the heli holding it sideways, they don't move.
Mine are about as tight as they will go. Going to start doing some aerobatic autos and sure the heck don't want them folding on me

I chopped off two booms on a V1 R30. One was during a high speed outside loop. The other was during a high speed inverted funnel. The blade grips were tight and headspeed was high. I can do the same things with my Sceadu all day and no problem. IMO, the 5mm to 6mm spindle upgrade from the V1 to the V2 is the most significant improvement. You might want to put a V2 head on that V1. I think it will run you about $90. How many chopped off booms before it pays for itself. The V1 head is fine if you are smooth. But when trying to do something for the first time, it's hard to be smooth.

Hi
I've boom struck a V1 Raptor 50 doing Outside backward loops.
The blade grips were pretty tight and head speed high. Luckily
the only damage was a dented boom. I looked at the damper rubbers
and they were quite soft (well used)!
I have now upgraded to a V2 head. The problem does not exist anymore.
good news!!!
I just order a RAP50 V2 I should have it Monday, I'm planning to use the new dampers they have two type blue and red does any have try it yet?
