Clubs and Associations > South Seattle Heli Fliers... We need a club!

Hey guys, I thought we should start this thread to get an idea of the number of people who wish to try to get a club going.

Everyone that wishes to help start one should post so we can get an idea of how many people we can start with. Make sure we get everyone to drop in so we can get an accurate number. Tell your buddies!

Lets also Brainstorm ideas on how to get a field. I think it would be nice to put together some sort of information "packet" for landowners to see if we start approaching people to use their land. We need someone to research what the AMA says about starting a club. Then we can get an organized attack plan on how to accomplish our goals.

We also need someone with some expierence looking at finances and formulating an estimate of start-up costs. Once we get the process going we are probably going to need some capital to set-up a field.

SO an accurate count of people interested would be very helpfull in determing how much money we can raise per year etc...

Lets get this ball rolling!

Brian

Edit: 8 people interested so far

Count me in. It would be nice to have a field to fly on and not worry about anyone beating you to the use of the field.

Just thought I would let you guys know.

You guys might not be aware of this but there is a group that has been meeting and working on getting a club going for the past few weeks. We have all the AMA stuff in hands and have spent numerous hours driving around from Renton to South Auburn. We’ve been looking at land, talking with land owners and Kent City Parks.

The costs to get an AMA Charter club are minimal but the land might not be. We have thrown a few numbers together to see what we could offer a land owner. Before we push private land harder we are looking at City land and old land fills that Ritchie turned us on to.

There are a few spots in the works and will know more in the next few weeks.

We will let you guys know more as soon as we get it.

If any of you in any way would like to help out please let us know.

Regards,

Kody

I'm interested in getting a club going, helping find a spot etc. I'm up in Seattle (Madrona) but something closer than Ft. Lewis would be great... (although TA-21, that the HotStartHeli folks use, is truly outstanding).

Let me know how to get involved.

(BTW, I'm new to the heli sport/hobby/money-pit but have some free time so should be able to start draining my wallet in ever increasing quantities)

Yeah I was at Southcenter a few times not too many before it got shut down.

Kody, I started this thread to get this discussion in the appropiate place and find out who all was interested. It would be great to know what you guys have found out. I think the group of people looking to start the club are all here if I'm not mistaken. All the guys that frequent Dao's and Hobbytown. hehe.

we need to be careful not to flood the cities and county with inquires, that only makes them mad, i do know they are not real crazy about doing things like this. an iron is in the fire, i say let it run its course and see what happens before we start making phone calls, that is only for public property, if you guys know of some private land, speak up.

however, no reason we can't form a club, lets come up with a meeting place for as many of us to get together and chat in person. maybe someone has some experience with club organization and will lend a helping hand. i play with the rc cars also and nationals is next week at SIR so i'll be busy thru next weekend. good thread.

Not here (South Center/Tukwila):

P.S. I have tried to get a response from Flaming Geyser members as to obtaining a "solo license" there, but no one seems interested in replying. I will go there one day and check out the field though.

Hello all,

I've been chatting with some of the folks in this group about what I'm up to WRT automatic control of a heli.

Anyway, I'm getting there... lots still to do, (like the automation / control part :-), but the basics are there and I've put some stuff about my approach on my website:

www.tarbox.org/helicontrol.html

Would love to have a local field and group of folks who are interested in such things...

Unfortunately, I'm still not able to fly the heli well... Good thing the heli parts are still cheap (CX2 pretty good for that) but will likely get more expensive if I upgrade the platform. Maybe by then the gizmo will be smart enough that even I can't crash it.

First flight!

The 600N mentioned above flew its maiden flight tonight, Friday the 13th! It seemed agile and smooth, no trim needed, but a very conservative first flight. It was getting dark, so only 1/2 tank. Now where to fly next ?

Thanks to Sam for taking the picture! A late Happy Birthday to Johnny! And welcome to Glenn! Your ideas are intriguing! Sorry for all the exclamation marks and bugging you all with my new heli, but it was an exciting day.
