How does the fan even run efficiently? Doesn’t it need a cover to have a place to “suck” the air from…if not it just blows the air in 360 degrees and none toward the engine. I can’t believe it will work for long.
well i will see anayway it seems to work quite efficiently without it

Just take the fan off because it would do as much good setting on the bench as it would on the heli without the shroud. If your engine managed to stay cool it wasn't because of the fantastic fan it was in spite of it. You are one lucky dude the engine didn't melt and you must live in a cool place temperature wise. Come on over to my world where it's 106 and try the shroudless trick.
It might just be me but isn't it painfully obvious without the shroud there isn't one single molecule of air getting pushed down toward the head. All the air is getting shot out toward the sides from the fan. If you're getting any cooling at all it's from the downwash of the main blades.
To each his own but sheesh. Running without the shroud, now that's funny!
If anything this just shows what an efficient head these engines have.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
