Tell you what Patrick, I am almost relieved not to have to fly my heli so much anymore. Sucker is collecting lots of dust these days and that is just fine with me. I have no clue whats going on with the FAA lately and to be honest I'm not too concerned. Still, its a lot more relaxing to know I have a glorified butterfly up there than a noisy, heavy, extremely expensive heli.

My “opinion” is, it’s gonna be ugly for fixed wind, uglier for rotary and uncomfortable for the RC flying hobbyist.

Hey DJ, dude, you are a inovative type of guy. You ever give any thought to a fixed wing, like say a SS for your stills? Man a guy with your inventive spirit could take something like a SS and do wonders. I gotta tell you bro, I'm having a blast with mine. Fixin to throw another one together. Every shot on my website was done with my SS. Just di some aerials for a church that bought a new property they are going to build on. Its 60 acres. They wanted still of the entire property to show the congregation on Sunday morning (Tomorrow). Dude, I took my SS up to to a height WAY beyond what I would EVER take my heli up to APi2000 or not. In less than 30 seconds I was snapping pictures. I take er up to the altitude I want shut off the engine and float around snapping away. I was also out several hundred yards something else that would have been tough with my heli. Anyway, I landed 10 minutes later. I got the ENTIRE 60 acres in the frame no sweat. Its so EASY!! Dang, I can't tell you how impressed I am with this platform.

I've got 3 SlowSticks now. None of them are set up for AP. 2 just for fun and one has 120 super bright LED's used for night flying

I would certainly like to try my hand at some SSAP. I've got a fresh kit still in the box (one of the new yellow ones). Maybe I'll work that one up as an AP rig.

I know what you mean of flying high with a SS. I've had mine up pretty high and there was zero level of stress.

Got outta here! What the heck lights do you use and what powers them? I have sooooo been thinking bout doing some night flying with mine. In the summer its light all the time up here but it would still look really cool! Anyhoo, Like I said in an earlier post, I take my SS with me everywhere. I am always taking aerials of something. Got a mall being demolished here, I go over to the parking lot every evening and take progress snaps. When its all done, I'm going to do a flash slide show of it and post it on my website.

six 16" strips each containing 30 LED's so I guess I actually have 180 of them. They are very bright, so bright that you will hurt your eyes looking directly into them.

You can see this plane from miles away. I have had people come by my house who had chased it from over 5 miles away. They thought it was a UFO!

All powered from the 3s1800 pack that powers the plane. The LED's are worth more than the whole damn plane! LOL

Amazing DJ!!, How much weight does the setup add to the whole rig? And how much run time do they take off your battery? I mean do they suck your batter dry a lot faster?

That looks like far too much fun DJ

Is there any reason for the offset placement of the leading edge green LEDs?

Any vids of it in flight?

not sure but I'd guess maybe 2 or 3 oz. They only pull about 0.2 amps so not a noticeable difference.

these particular strips are very hard to find. I got them on ebay over a year ago. Since then I have not seen them but every so often on there. You can get some that are similar, but these ones are the super extreme bright versions that have the LED's spaced .5" apart. The ones I've seen on ebay lately are not as bright and have 1" spacing (1/2 as many lights)

no... just happened to be on that way when I taped them to the wing.

here's a quick digicam video from last New Years Eve. We attached some sparklers to the wings and tail too.

Dude that is just SICK!! LOL!! Man those sparklers were a little dangerous with that foam plane. One spark and poof! No more plane! O well, for 31.00 it was worth the risk eh DJ?

Hey Top, I use the KV 1020. I have tried many props and finally ended up with the 10x7 park flyer prop. Others may dispute this but most of the normal airplane props I tried ran the battery dead much faster as the are a bit heavier. I settled on this one because it is extremely light but it still makes my bird climb like a hoemsick angel. For everything used on my SS you can go my first post in this thread and it lists everything.

Camera go's on next weekend for the Darwin cup, at 11.5oz setup.Thats with 2 servos, tilt and click click.
