Im a nitro neewbee I was breaking in my new os50 hyper engine on my 600n just hovering the engine seemed to be overspeeding then the engine died 1 foot off the ground checked the temp on the back plate it was very hot too hot to keep my finger on it any amount of time. I checked the needle valve was closed all the way i know im supose to have the needle turned out 2 turns screwed up! could this be this be the reason it died. Let the engine cool down tryed to restart the engine would not start again. is it possible i fryed the engine?

If you ran it that lean your glow plug is probably shot. Replace it and open you main needle 2 turns it should start right up.

And, before you start again, try to open the back cover and unscrew the hyper head, check that all parts move free but tight, I don't think you seized the piston because of short time but is better to make sure all works properly.

Read your engine manual and if possible make the breakin in on a wood bench for peace of mind (is easy and cheap to build one) you only need to make a cut on wood to attach engine w/muffler, a fuel tank w/line and a long pushrod I almost forgot you need to install a 10x6 or 11x6 plank propeller to give charge, you can push the engine a little more with these system because the propeller cool the engine fast, my new Hyper was properly break in on one bench and boy, what a nice motor since it puts back to heli.

By the way are you plan to using 30 or 15 nitro in the beggining?.

When the engine died did quit instantly or gradually slow down and then sputter out?

My experience has been that if it gradually slows down and sputters out, the piston ring is shot or you have lost compression by some other means. If it quits instantly, it is usually the plug element got sucked out and spit out the exhaust port.

Either way you should open up the motor and inspect it before you try to restart it. You might save yourself more damage.

Definitely not good! Breaking an engine in at that needle setting will definitely cause premature wear on the rings, pistons & sleeve, and decrease the life expectancy of the engine. Before you start that baby up again set the High Speed Needle to at least 2 turns out from fully closed(Thats Counter-clock wise). At this needle setting you'll be running rich enough to provide the proper cooling during break-in, while still being able to let the piston mate with the sleeve.

I got a new os 50 engine now can some one tell me how to set the mixture control screw? Do i leave it at factory settings in the middle and what should the needle valve be set at , what throttle curve should i have for breaking in new engine normal, idle 1&2? I have a multi gov but its not installed yet can i break the engine in with out the gov? How do you set the throttle to servo linkage do you start at 50% in throttle atv set your servo at neutral and throttle servo horn at 90% middle throttle and make sure you dont bind with trim and stick turned all way and down adjusting throttle atvs is this correct?

Surprised it ran at all with the needle all the way in. You may need a new piston and sleeve..........Do your self a favor and get some help.

sorry to hear that. hope it is ok.

From a brand new motor state, leave the low/idle needle at factory setting (should be about 2 o'clock). Put your main needle at about 2 turns to break in the motor.

Don't put on the governor until you have broken-in the motor and tuned it for good response.
