Align T-REX 600N 700N > Converting to belt tail drive

Is anyone figured out, or is offering a belt drive conversion kit for the TT drive unit? I think it is time for me to convert to belt drive. At the rate I am taking gears out, I can’t afford the expense. I have no idea how the hard core 3D guys keep these gears together. I was at the XFC this last weekend and I did not see anyone really ring the 600N out even JK looked like he was easy on the machine! When I tore the rear gearbox down I found black powder and small shaving around the bearings, not real pleased with that.

The sport version is tail belt and comes with metal gears. I guess you only need to change the gearbox, front and back gear and put a belt in it. The 600E is belt driven so you could get parts ASAP as they don't seem to have changed.

Let us know what you changed as I'm considering belt myself (already used to that from the evo) as my autos sometimes scuff my tailblades... I guess that with a torque tube I would be sc**wd.

One trick that may help you in the meanwhile is to put a 2mm spacer between the landing gear and the back support so that the tail sits higher. Would keep the tail out of dirt easier.

Tony

PS - I know of someone using a 3D strut in the front and a standart one in the back... dragstyle, very effective

Anyone know if the TT and belt use the same front tail case? If so it should be a somewhat easy change. I did the calculations about a month ago and I think the change was going to be around $75. You should be able to sell the TT for about the same as the cost of the belt components.

I believe these are the components needed for the change:

H60078 Front tail gear set $11
H60036 Belt $7
H60132 Metal tail assembly $48

Looks like about $66 assuming the front case is the same which I believe it is.

They do use the same boom block. I stripped my tail drive gears last week and couldn't get replacements in time for the weekend, so I converted to belt drive. Used the 600N boom block and all other parts were from a 600E. Worked absolutely fine.

wouldn't it have been cheaper and easier to just get the sport, £100 cheaper and already has the belt drive,

Why are you stripping gears?? are you hitting the tail on the ground or stripping in flight??

the_jackal46464: the pro has fiberglass painted canopy and carbon frames. the TT will re-sell at a good price

Why not have the best of both worlds?

I'm going to start with the TT and if I start stripping gears, I'm changing too

Stripped the gears when the elevator servo failed and I nosed in, ultimately taking out the boom and TT in the process. I've since gone back to the TT - I've had no problems with the durability of the gears so far. I expect them to go in a crash, just didn't have any spares at the time.

If anyone is interested I have "all" of the parts needed to convert to a belt. I'm looking to build a second TT set for a backup and would be willing to trade the parts needed and even send you some cash for the TT parts.

PM me if interested to work out a deal.

i have seen jk beat the snot out of that thing at our field quite often. his piro speed is pretty insane, at lease 3x as fast as mine and mine is pretty snappy. I dont really hammer mine but i dont baby it either and i have not had any problems with gears.

why change to belt isnt that a backwards step i have crashed mine hard twice and still got the same gears i think they are very durable and it piroetts insanely fast so even if i strip mine it will get them replaced my local shop stocks them loads on the shelf but it must be hard for you guys that struggle with poor stockists not all keep good stock us in the uk have fast-lad and he is very good at stocking for any ship he sells
