guys how important is the c of g on the hirobo chinook? and how do you achieve it and how much weight do you need to get it correct? any of the photos ive seen only show one battery pack and no weight is this right. any photos and tips would be brill. (to get the c of g as per the instructions i have to add 2 battery parks and a peice of lead in the back to try and get it)

Thats right, I had to add a 2700mah, ni-cd pack to the rear of the heli because of the C/G, I use it to power the lights so it's not wasted.

Hi Aerodynamic18
The C/G point is not so important on a tandem rotor as it is on a single rotor heli, on the full size it is around the cross over point of the front and rear rotors. You can trim the pitch on the front and rear rotors to compensate for any "out of balance" but obviously the closer to this blade cross over point the better.

With my large scale tandem I have about 1 deg more pitch on the rear rotors than the front, some of this may be due to the rear rotors being "starved" of lift by the front rotors.

Hi Camel Jockey
That's a nice heli youv'e got there, pity you couldn't have brought over to the Vario event. I've reset all my setup since that day and now fly with 100% DCP and it's steady as a rock. Time to put the fuse on I think.

Good Info....

I added quite a bit of extra weight to the rear of mine for testing, but I am going to change to a heavier battery instead so at least it is "usable" weight... but I will also try with a little less weight to see how that feels also...

Thanks, Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

One thing to keep in mind is the weight of the fuse...my Vertol is very nose heavy without the fuse and I didn't even think about how the fuse itself balances as I was building the mechanics. I then checked the fuse and it's tail heavy so it may not be that far off once I mount the fuse which I haven't done yet...and this may not be the case with the Chinook since it doesn't have the rear pods like the Vertol.

Hadn't Even Thought....

Hadn't even givent he fuse a thought as of yet, but VERY GOOD point... I will be doing some checking on this one when I get back home... but is does sound as if you might have hit on something here... it just seemed out of place for it to be so far out... Hirobo doesn't usually do things like that...
Thanks for the tip!!!!

Chinook Cof G

I thought that fitting the fuse would make a difference as the rear had more weight, but this was not so and I still needed a large batt.pack and a lump of lead to get it right. Some more detail on the CofG in the instructions would be good.so balance up without the fus.it makes little difference.

Mike,
This may not be true for the Vertol fuse since it has the rear pods and the fuse is overall bigger in the rear compared to the Chinook. Like I said before, my Vertol fuse is pretty tail heavy by itself but I haven't gotten in done and installed on the mechanics yet...maybe someone that already had a completed Vertol can comment....?????
