Give these guys a break! Flying to music in front of TONS of people (including your peers) and having to work in some pretty darn hard required maneuvers is not a walk in the park.

Um, it's a competition. The XFC represents some of the best of the best. That's what competition is all about. No one said it was going to be easy. If the flight is supposed to be flown to music then it should be judged accordingly.

What interest me the most is what happened with Jason Krause? he was in 4th and holding strong, and then completely drop to the bottom... guess will have to wait to see the videos.

Plus it's an invitation only competition so those flying should be able to fly in front of people, windy conditions, and couldy days.

Looking at the scores, it looks like he crashed in both rounds on Sunday. Even with them discarding the lowest, that still left him with one one 0 - hard to be anywhere near the top with a 0. As you say, it'll be interesting to see the vids.

he didn't crash, he touched the blades on one flight then right at the beginning of his last unknown round you could tell he was going to fly it hard, he pumped it at the ground and they said the vertical fin touched.

Its funny they will allow gyro stabalized heli but there is a stupid rule that says you cant touch the ground? Jason got robbed if this is the case, its the XFC let the guys get down and dirty. Only zero rounds if there is a crash...

Oh well there is always next year.

Loved the flying...and congrats to Alan.

Do people here not understand what V-Stabi or to some know as "VBar" is??

Eco you are making it sound like the vbar is a hands off thing, not even close, all that it is "no flybar". Without the pressure tubes there is no automatic stabalization at all in fact, the only difference is no flybar that is it so I would not get to upset about this. Be well.

I would think touching the ground during a routine, is pretty extreme.....

No one ever said its hands off but you can achieve a very agressive cyclic rate but maintain a very stable center which IMHO is a huge advantage. You have 2 gyros assisting the pilot while he is flying the flybarless heli not to mention has direct control over how the rotor head "feel" in flight.

Do you have to have mad flying skillz to take advantage of the system?...absolutly.

Im not trying to make a huge deal out of this, just saying if there was no crash the round shouldnt have been zeroed. But I guess those rules have been there for a while so Jason should have kept that in mind cause if he kept it a foot higher he prob would have been in the top 5.

C
BTW: I have designed my own version of a flybarless stabalization system that works in a TREX 450 and Im going to test it in larger helis. So I definitally know what flybarless stabalization system can offer.

Regarding the blades touching the ground and getting zero points for the round... Several pilots had that happen. And they all knew ahead of time that if they touched the ground they would get zero points... It sounds like it was a very fine line between zero points for a round and the top score!

I have to agree with the rule makers on this one.

Hovering an inch off the ground(inverted) is skill, hitting the ground is hard on equipment, and could pose a safety of flight issue.

I think that is why the rule is in place.
