Align T-REX 600N 700N > JK Hatori muffler: Mounting techniques?

Has anyone found a good way to mount this muffler to the 600N?

I used one of the metal straps that came with the muffler. The strap is "dog legged" with an 8mm offset. The muffler is solid and straight. I thought about using a stand-off and mounting to the CF frame but although that looks nice I didn't like the technique as well as the way I chose to do it. I hope if I crash on the muffler side the strap will absorb some of the energy instead of putting it all into the CF frame. I used a similar mount on my raptor and it worked perfectly for 100's of flights. So far I only have 9 flights on my 600N and it's working just fine.

Have you flown it yet? My idea is similar, but I am not happy with it. I drilled a hole through the frames by the fuel tank. But if I ever crash it on the muffler side it is sure to break the frame at that spot.

and if u are worried about breaking the frames.... use a nylon screw to hold the mount to the frame. that way the screw will shear instead of breaking the frames.

Bison: Is your muffler running parallel to your frame, or is it pinched inwards towards the rear? Also one more question. I could not get the small piece with the o-rings to fully seat. Both of the o-rings are inside the pipe, but I do not have metal to metal contact. Is this normal or do I need to get it all the way. I would say that my gap is between 1/8 and 1/16 of an inch.

you are supposed to have a gap. and my pipe is almost parallel to the frames, but angled slightly towards the back so it would no longer touch the canopy. the effect is just amplified in the photo so it looks like more of an angle than it really is.

and i used a nylon washer thats the same diameter of the standoff so its not metal to carbon contact. if u look closely in the pic u can see it

I did not even think about the canopy. Just curious, why no metal to carbon contact? Are there not about 25-30 other places on the frames that have it?

just to limit the vibrations from the pipe from eating up the side frames.

Well, I got it mounted this morning. I kind of went off in my own direction. Basically I used a mounting bracket from a TJP and attached it vertically on the frame in between the engine mount and the fuel tank. I then attached the two muffler supports onto the plastic bracket. It seems solid enough. I can still wiggle the muffler vertically a small amount. The frame is a bit stiffer at this point, and maybe the bracket will break before the frame, in the event of a crash.

I solved the problem by getting the new sab50 1 piece from hatori.

That doesn't really relate to this thread now does it. I prefer the SB50 anyway cause I wouldn't want that giant muffler hanging off just my engine. Ya I have a clamp to deal with but I doubt it'll tear my engine up if it gets hit.

I was only enlightening people to this new product that just came out for those who don't like the clamp method of mounting.

So many people on these forums are so damn touchy. Its a hobby, your suppose to have fun.

STRICTLY MY OPINION!

Well, lets see if the pictures turned out.

It is far from the pinnacle of craftsmanship, but I used what I had.
