e-Electric Conversions > Lama 30 Conversion Questions

Well after reading many of the posts regarding the conversion of the hirobo Lama to electric I am still unsure of what size motor and esc to get. I have seen the Hacker A30-12XL and Hacker C50-19XL both used. I am not using the 3 rotor head so I am leaning towards the A30 motor. As far as ESC's can someone give me their opinion on this sellers controllers.

He has an 80amp one as well and the prices are far below that of a Jazz 55-10-32. I will be using 2 3S2P 4000mah Li-Po's. My other question is should I leave the clutch assembly in tact or remove it. There are so many configurations for this conversion here on RunRyder and I'm sure some are over kill and some are barely making it. When running these how many of you use a 4 cell battery pack for your receivers or do you just use the Li-Po's to run everything. Any input would be appreciated.

I am in the Hacker A30-12XL camp (I also may be the only one). If you think you are going to end up heavier than 8.5 lbs. (i.e. if you use the clutch), you may want more power.

Sorry, I have no info on that ESC. My Hacker Master Heli 48 Opto controller has a slow enough start that the clutch is unnecessary. I think the clutch is extra weight, but may make it easier to install the motor. I chose to save weight.

I am using a 1650 mah 4.8v Nimh receiver pack.

Regards,
Rick

That's a China made ESC and I suggest that you try other name brands in such a high power application. I have the Hirobo Uh-1b and the shuttle converted to electric. Both uses clutch and because of this I can use a Jeti 77A Opto ESC without soft start, ie a cheaper ESC can be used. I run 8s Lipo with my setups and that is actually over kill. I'll try to go back down to 6S next. Also spool up with a clutch is more scale like.

Conversion

Just finished converting Hirobo Schweizer.
Do a search here on RunRyder or Wattflyer for P901
and you can see all the details.
I found out that the AXI 2826/8 with Jeti 70 flew the two blade
head nice but it was a little underpowered for the three blade head.
I`m using a Medusa 36mm 810 Kv with a Shulze Future 32.55K 5S1P
Flightpower now, sweet. The Shulze control is nice with the direct drive, (no clutch) because it has the soft start.
More details on the other post.

Where are you located in Southwick? I'll be visiting my in-laws who happen to have a place on the lake. Do you think it possible to meet tomorrow? I'd like to take a look at your Schweizer. I'll bring my Funkey A109 that I'm currently working on. We can compare notes. Check your PM for my cell. Hope to hear from you!

the Hacker A30-12XL and Hacker C50-19XL both
I run the C50-19XL and I like it on 2 rotor head and on 3 rotor head as well! It is a really strong unit !

I never reached more than 45 amp on a 6 s setup. Than you can use also a 55-6-18 (including a Bec) but I prefer to have a separate lipo or lion 2s battery with a regulator.

It is more simple to leave the clutch. Otherwise you will have to install a motor mount... You can attach the clutch directly with 2 screw. As it is really difficult to align your motor on the clutch, you will not have to change the liner every 3 months like I did

Good luck with your conversion
