Hi Guy's

I just finish making my first layup of my the project I started this winter.

The layup of the main fuselage

This morning was time to demolde I started by the nose part

and the balance of it

Here is the final product just minutes out of the mold

Next step is to find some time to mould the balance of the parts

Fandamtastic!! You are truly a craftsman. What size mechanics will you be flying in this beauty? Will you consider selling them after you finish the first one?

I is for a 60/90 size mechanic, I probably be using my good old X-Cell Custom with A OS 70, Right now the mec is in a scratch Hughes 500D that weight 16 pounds empty an it is pulling it ok

Yes I will probably be selling a couple of them to pay back the expense involve in the making of the mold.

what did you use for making the fuse? (resin, build tips, release agent, etc...)

Man, I miss the eighties.

have a look at this site I did a build log for it I think you will have your answers.

I am using different resin depending of what I am doing as an example the foam was covered with glass cloth and epoxy. The mold was build with polyester resin because it is a lot cheaper. The fuse it self is molded with epoxy resin.

It depends what type of part you are moulding, but for my self I am using 2 X 6 oz cloth for all of my fuselage and it is important to use the minimum resin (epoxy) to soak the cloth, to much resin will add some weight and no additional strength.

I've looked at your link, but I am a little confused about how you put the two halves together. I see the alignment holes. Do you make each half seperately, then put them together after they have set up? How is that part done?

On each mold I have some alignment dowels. The alignment hole you see is used for 10-32 bolt and some wing nuts.

I make each side separately and when the resin gets tacky I trim the excess cloth from the mold and join both halves and I apply a strip of cloth in the center joint by working trow the opening of the fuse.
