My name is Lance Holly, and I work for Viking Aerospace (www.vikingaero.com). We are the US importer and integrator of the WeControl line of autopilots. We offer three different autopilots:helicopter, fixed wing, and an RMAX specific autopilot that uses Yamaha's IMU which reduces the cost. These autopilots have modern hardware which eliminates the problems of low resolution servo signals, servo lag, etc. when operating in manual (rc) mode. It also provides us with the computing power to control the vehicle, as well as cameras, gimbals, etc.
The controllers are synthesized specifically for your vehicle using flight test data and system identification techniques. The controllers are robust and will be able to handle a wide range of payloads.
These autopilots are in use by branches of the USAF, and several major aerospace contractors, but are also being used to control vehicles developed for civil applications such as construction site documentation (with little effort onsite, we can get the same picture from the same point in the sky, week after week for the duration of the project which could be a year or two), chiminey inspection (BIG chimineys such as chemical plants)...I know, you guys have all of these ideas and many more already in your heads. Just when I thought I've heard it all, someone comes up with a new idea that lends itself to UAVs.
