No Camera!!!!!!!!!

All those scale birds and no camera!!!!!

Still better then me though!!!!! I take the camera and forget that I have it until I see it laying on the seat on the way home!!!

Well, Free Bird..... I finally had some dead calm air to work on some trims on mine, and it really does fly!!!!!

I was able to do some pretty nice figure eights in my yard (that has a LOT OF TARGETS!!!!!!!!) and two full tanks of fuel....
With the "BREEZE" we had for the last few days, I just could not tell what needed to be adjusted... but by the end of the second tank I was actually able to set it into a hover and take my hands off both sticks for 3-4 seconds at a time... and it might have gone longer, but I figured if I kept that up I would be contacting Jeff for more then blades!!!!!
Mine is fitted with the stock woods and it is hard to believe how smooth this thing runs... absolutely no bubbles in the tank and it is just a smooth running piece....
We are going to have to get together after I get back from the Nats and do a little formation flying!!!!
Will you be at the Rochester event in August... I am planning on that one for sure....

Talk to you later...... ONE VERY HAPPY Stan

Stan, I can't believe you can take your hands off the sticks in a hover. You really got that thing dialed in. Mine flys really well but seems like I am always having to give some inputs to keep it in place. Although the wind doesn't seem to want to stop blowing around here. Glad to hear your Chinook is flying so good.

Hands Off!!!

I could not believe it either, but I kept making those "little" trim adjustments and I had to release the pressure on the sticks to see how it worked, and it got to the point where it would sit in the hover... now forward is a different ball game all together and that takes some stick moving, but once you get the hang of it, even that isn't bad on a trimmed machine...gotta love it!!!!
At this point, I am not seeing any reason to change the blades... getting the woods to run smoothly was not a problem... just use the OLD SCHOOL way of checking and balancing them and they seem to be working and tracking just fine....
What a fun machine!!!! (and challenge too!!!!)
If the wind stays down for this weekend we are going to try and get some flying pic's.....

Thanks, Stan

Nice going Stan!! I can't go that with mine, it always wants to move somewhere. I do have a small shake in it though. The blades are balanced, perhaps if I can get rid of the shake, it'll settle down. Glad to hear that yours working well.

Century Swift wood blades

Well I tried the Century Swift wood blades last night and it really seemed to fly well. I flew three tanks and it was really calm and just hovered and some gentle forward flight but these blades seem just as good as the stock woodies. Even with the rear blades a little out of track the machine was very smooth. I really didn’t get much time on the stock woodies before I had the blade strike but I really can’t see any difference at this point….and with these blades only costing $15 a pair (3x$15=$45), it’s seems like a good alternative to other options. The only thing I did to these blades was cut them down from 515mm to 480mm. I was going to try and cut the cord down some and flatten the bottoms out (they are fully symmetrical) but I figured I would try them like they are and so far I’m very happy with the performance. I’m really not planning on flying this machine in windy conditions nor doing anything other then some gentle scale flight so I’m going to keep using these blades at this time. I’m going to re-cover the blades with some flat black contact paper since they already come with the white heat shrink plastic on them. I do have a new pair of stock woodies as backup. The one other thing I had to do was turn up some plastic grip spacers (1.5mm thick) because the root is a little thinner then the stock blades (see pic's).

Being you bought 3 sets of pairs and mixed and matched into 2 sets of 3, how did the blades balance/weigh against each other?

I actually purchased 4 pairs because I was worried that I may have a hard time matching up 2 sets but I didn't and I haven't even opened the 4th pair yet. I may of got lucky this time but they were all pretty close and I just had to add some color tape to 2 out of 3 on each set...which will help with tracking. As for the CG, I didn't even check them. I figure I would just do I quick balance and try them first before I put a lot of time in recovering/painting and making them perfect. At this point, I'm thinking about doing up another set while I fly this one. The stock blades weighted 89g and these were about 83g. Stock blades were 465mm long, 33mm cord. The Swift's are 480mm (cut down) with a 45mm cord.

Sounds like you hit on a cost effective alternative for replacement blades!

Question though, how come you made them a little longer?

I guess I forgot to state why in my first post, sorry...it's because of the location of the weights. I left about 10mm of wood at the tips. This was something I wasn't sure of when I ordered the blades and I thought for $15 they would come uncovered and unassembled and I figured I could play around with the weights if I had to. So since the weights were already glued in, I figured I would leave about 10mm of wood left at the tips so I didn't have to worry about the weights flying out. I checked to make sure that the extra length didn't cause any problems between the two heads and they clear the fuse so I haven't come up with a down side yet...and I'm running a TT50 engine so power isn't a problem...if anything, I think the extra length may make it a little more stable....???? Very interesting. Longer blades and a wider cord sounds good. I like the wider cord, as I think the stock blades look a little thin when compared to the full-scale heli.

Sounds Good....

It all sounds like a real good alternative and to tell you the truth, the fully symmetrical, once set up properly will most likely let us fly in the wind a little better then the stock ones... guess I will have to do some experimenting with these guys too... thanks for the info and keep us informed of you progress....

Thank you, Stan
