If you own a UBEC and BEAT controller you might like to peruse the following correspondence.
http://www.koolflightsystems.com/ultimatebec.htm
*Technical Notice*
It was recently discovered that the UBEC is incompatible with Kontronic's "BEAT" ESC.

Firstly I emailed Jeff at Koolflight, the shortened version went like this.

Q. I was just about to install it in my logo 10 with 13 cells Beat 40–6-18 and kontronic 600-18 motor when I read the update on your site.
Is it just a case of soldering a capacitor or is it much more complex than that?
Obviously I can send it in but shipping all that way seems a bit over the top if there is a simple solution. I have friends who are electronic’s whizzes. Please advise.
A. If you can install a 50 volt 220uF cap at the ESC input this could help. Have them solder it directly on the ESC board.

So I tried again….

Q. Do I need some kind of road map?
A. If they are decent with electronics, soldering a cap should be no problem. One leg of the cap goes on the pos (+) terminal on the board.......one goes on the neg. (-) term. on the board.

And again……

Q. .. do you mean solder it onto the Ubec or onto the Beat controller ..
A. I would solder to the board of the ESC.

By now I realized I was getting nowhere so tried Kontronik……….

Q. (quoting the discussion http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...&threadid=87677)
Does this mean I solder direct onto the Beat (and is this a good idea??) or can I solder across the leads?
If so please explain CLEARLY where I solder ?

A. Please, don't solder anything to the controller, use it as it is.
Use a seperate receiver batterie.

Now maybe I'm being a bit dim but I'd count both replies as less than 100% helpful .. of course I could just package the offending article up and send it, except that turnaround UK to USA and back for what appears a trivial mod seems a bit OTT.
Sorry if I'm percieved as being unfair to anyone here....

it just needs the cap added to the INPUT side of the UBEC. the BEAT controllers are a bit different than all the others available, and don't have this stiffening cap on the input side, so the ubec becomes that article, and gets very hot. I use several UBEC's and they are very good, work great and I've not had any problems, but due to past experience with some kontronics controllers, I don't use any kontronics products, so I haven't had that problem although I'm aware of it.
