Align T-REX 600N 700N > first problem with 600n build.... flybar cage

well i had my first hiccup with the build... the assembled flybar cage is a little wider than the flybar seesaw so there is about 1mm of play for the cage. there doesnt appear to be any spacers that go in there so am i missing something???

There's some tiny shims in the kit. IIRC, there's some spares in the bag that has the zip ties and things in it.

thanks Eury... is this something you had to do as well, or are there just some inconsistencies in the plastic parts?

I"ve put 3 of these heads together (I've got them on my 2 Raptor 50s), and only one of them needed shimming. The one in the 600N box was fine.

thats unfortunate for me i guess. i'll be upgrading to the metal seesaw so hopefully that will fix it.

on another note.... how many shims did u have to use on each side of the ccpm mixing lever rod. i am using metal mixing levers and need quite a few shims on each elevator arm so there is no side-to-side slop in that assembly.

i hope there is something wrong bc i am starting to get a little disappointed with these issues. i thought the quality control was a little higher on these kits.

Huh? Why would this disappoint you? If you've ever built a Miniature Aircraft kit (really the highest quality kits money can buy), assemblies need to be shimmed on those too. It's the nature of a metal/carbon heli. They take more setup, but in taking the time to do it right, you are rewarded with a very smooth heli.

I put one shim on either side of the rod (beyond the one that it tells you to use in the manual), between the frame bearing and the stock plastic arms. I thought that I still had some play, and then grabbed a second 2.5mm driver and turned both screws at the same time and found that I really hadn't tightened them down all the way.

i am getting disappointed because it already has 4 shims (2 on each side) and it seems like it needs at least 2 more on each side. have to use 8 shims is a bit ridiculous IMO. i am also tired and getting a bit restless so thats probably the main contributing factor to my frustration, haha. i am going to pull it back apart and see if something else is wrong or i missed something building while tired.

1-2 shims i could understand, but this many is just really bad tolerances during the machining process.

well i realized what i did wrong. i had too small of a washer on the retaining bolts so the arms were actually sliding out and hitting the bolt head, instead of the washer. that accounts for the extra space. so it is 2 shims per side and it seems to be good to go. this is what happens when u build while exhausted, haha.

thanks again Eury

I did not need any shims on my E and N models , are you making sure the shafts with the links on are locating into the back of the arm recesses ?

yea its just inconsistencies in the plastic of the seesaw. on some the bearings sit just a little bit farther in... creating a small gap.

Hi

sorry to inform you but I have the metal seesaw and I'm just assembling the head of my 600N and I also have a 0.2mm play between the seesaw and the flybar cage. Worst is I don't have any 0.1mm shims. THe ones supplied in the kit are 0.3mm

I have that play too but I can't see how it could have any effect on flight characteristics. Here's a tip for shims though. Turns out the shims for the head on the blade cp have a 3mm id. and they're .1mm thick.

removed the play

I'm stupid.

you can't get the shims in if you first assemble the flybar cage and then try to slide it over the seesaw. You have to assemble the flybar cage already in place and put 1 shim on each side.

0 slop and no binding. Super smooth.

I'm happy afterall

Back to my shed...
