Hey Dave,
Any pics yet? I'm going for the 2 GY401 + AP2000i set up. Should be flying by next week.

Sure would like to see a close up of your modded wash-out though.

Can't way.

Will keep you posted on the process.

Cheers,

Gyros are now on truck out for delivery, keeping my fingers crossed for the CycLock as well.

Spent last night making the head ready, looks nice and clean. I do however understand why Dave aka Wheelhaus shortened his mainshaft, looks very long.

Will post pictures later today.

Gyro's made it, Cyclock I will have to wait for... Hmmm...

Here is a pic of the head and the gyros

I also am using the T-REX600 head button, but I "Swifted" it by sanding it down. I tried with century's head button, but the screw length is so wrong.

more to come

Looks sweet Hedge.
I'm looking at your washout. As I understand it, it needs to be fixed to the shaft. That way you can remove the CNC washout arms.

Look at Dave's set up.

Yeah, I am planning on shortening the shaft but will need some input on the procedure from Wheelhaus in regards to the dampers, and where to cut the mainshaft and tips on ho to drill

In regards to the washout arms, I am still thinking about getting the alu part from century - if not I will do the mod that Wheelhaus did.

I also added a alu swash after i took the pictures.

Also I am thinking about the placement of the gyros, perhaps I will stick these two 720s together with servo-tape and then mount them on a single CMS mounting bracket with Gyro padding.

Hedge, where did you get your CNC blade grips from? They seem to be out of stock everywhere...

I can take a closeup picture of the washout base, the mod was easy with a dremel and a drill. I had to shave some room off the top and bottom of the washout base since the head sits about 20mm lower. I also removed the alignment pins, not needed since the base is fixed to the shaft and doesn't slide up/down anymore.

Stock dampers should be fine, they're really stiff already. Century may offer dampers for another heli that are the same size but stiffer, not sure.

Which main shaft are you using, HB?

You could use the standard 2 bearing main shaft, but drill a hole ~20mm higher from the bottom hole. This will drop the whole shaft (and head) and fully extend the shaft through the 3rd bearing block (if you have it). Make a set of links that are ~20mm shorter and your swash should stay in the same place. Tweak the servo-swash links and swash-grip links to get the washout base links level at 0° pitch.

As far as getting the hole started and drilling it straight, you're on your own. If you could use a clamp, vice, etc and a drill press, you'd be set. I'd start the hole with a dremel cutoff wheel to create a flat spot so the bit tip doesn't walk. Get a good sharp bit that's HARD for metals, and if you're using the solid shaft, some cutting fluid would help the drill bit last longer than once.

Here are the first pics of my flybarless Swift

I opted for a small box to house the gyros and controller, but think it looks bad.

The flying part is just great. I almost flies itself.

more to come.

Will do, by the way the box is a std. RadioShack project box for about 5 bucks - fits perfectly and tight on the Shift - I will mount it more "pro" once I get the time (don't like the fasteners)

Also started recording a video-clip, but the memory went out prior to even lifting off the ground. Then I guess I had a "hard-landing" with no damages at all, until I tired to spin up again, look like the main-shaft now wobbles, odd I would have assumed that the skids would have taken the shock of the landing, all looks good, but now at spin-up I have a very funky Swift. Will take shaft from other bird and order some of the newer shafts.

When it did fly, it was smooth - I put on some woodies for starters (you never know...) but all was well.

Now I will work on bringing the rest of the fleet to this level.

Thanks for all your help

I will get a video once I have had time to go into my "heli-cave" at home.

From working with these flybarless stabalization systems you must chase away vibrations. I would buy a couple solid main shafts for your Swift. Next I would do a few test hovers with no gain to get your trims right, and make sure you dont see vibration. From the start working that gain up.

Good luck with your project.

Oh maaaan Hedge.... that looks so cool. Sorry about the rough landing.
While you're at it, could you take a shot of how your rotor head moves???

Ultra Super cool dude!!
And great idea with the ultra cote.

So, just a quick question on the cyclic servos, what are you using?, I have 3151's but just ordered some 9252's (have these on the TREX600's) but alway felt that the Swift was okay on these 3151.

I'm using S9650's on 6v mounted to small carbon adapter plates. They're fast (.11sec transit).

You don't need anything super fast, but it helps since you're using gyros. the 9252's will work perfect. Anything faster will just make the swash "get to where you want it" faster, doesn't really make it fly better. High end digitals are nice because of their precision, so the heli feels less floaty and a little more locked in.
