John had the motor as a direct drive setup. Why did you change it to a belt driven type?

I presume you custom made the motor mount (or reused John's design?), the belt drive and the battery CF plates?

I would like to go electric at some point in the near future with my Avant FX too.

and please do post your performance report, ie: flight times, perceived power, etc...

Hmm, 12.3:1 with the actro 32-3 on 12s lipo? That wont work well.

RPM at low load: 1943 at 44,4 volt
RPM at medium load: 1812 at 40,08 volt
RPM at full load: 1681 at 38,4 volt

it will work just fine Mel , ran this RPM on my Ion , lot of pitchs makes up the difference than the screamers everyone is wasting power on.
Dark---- this setup is better for the motor, and plus the gear ratio , the 32-3 comes alive on 12s , Jkos found out the motor and pinion was to far away for it to work affective , the second gear is in the way for it to work great , breaks motor shaft after a few runs

Hmm, How do you get the tail to hold?

Yeah, since headspeed is _THE_ flight-time killer, ive tried forth and back to try to lower it, but then it seems to let go of the tail when hitting RPM < 1750...

(im running 105's on the tail on both my ion and stratus)

This is why.

I wouldn't call it a "few runs." It had been run many, many flights with 10S4P 5300 packs. It broke the second time with a 10S4P 8000 pack. BTW, the 10S4P 8000 didn't put out any more power than the 5300s but added quite a bit of weight.

I never blew a tail on the Ion , Razor , YES , the Razor has a slow tail , I dont thing this machine will suffer from a slow tail either , with the 6100 and that fast servo , dang its twitchy , YEH! , if you blowing out the tail on the Ion or stratus , you got a adjustment that needs to be made on the servo horn. make it longer

Yeh! Jkos , Im thinking of trading in this 5mm shaft for a 8mm one , with the amount of torque from 12 to 1 , its ganna test this one too, Im also doing some more work to it , didnt like the motor mount design , had a flaw , belts to close to the frames , melted a belt yesterday on the first run up , and plus Ill be able to change the ratio to talor it to the machine , Mel, 12 to 1 was my first of many ratios to test , in the razor I tried what 6 ratios so far , 4 motors too , 10s and 12s . you should know me by now

Mel , how are you getting the figures up above ? kinda off aint you ?
heres what I have , 100% in a hover 2110 , gov down to 1900 for 3D which is around 90% , Im relying on the gov to keep this HS for 5 min, then its ganna start tapping off. which it might drop around 100 from 1900 during hard loads, the better batteries here should hold it well. which 1800 it still shouldnt blow the tail out. if HC dont blow it in nitro form, then this shouldnt

Im using real life numbers for a 20C battery.
In the calculation Im using 3% gear loss.

If you hit 20C on a lipo, you will see voltage around 3.2 (depending on quality of battery, if its a 25C and you hit "only" 20 it will be higher, yes)

3.2v * 12s = 38.4v

And since the RPM totally rely on voltage, the result will be as I show.

However, If you can keep the C down (higher Mah battery) you will get more consistent RPM.

But using 3850's on a .90 sized heli I see peaks of 28C, meaning voltage will be even lower then 3.2

I was out testing now, running 1950 hs and raised the gain the tail "holds, it dont let go" but it still sways alot in hard manouvers, it really dont feel locked.

hey , on my 14s Ion , I ran 1850 last year and this year , it sure dont sway , are you close to 15 degrees of pitch ? I use 10 to 12. with 10 degrees of pitch with a Vcurve , I get the rev up affect , and thats with the old 14s4p 5300, with 12 it holds good , 15 degrees , Bert broke the shaft on the actro shaft adaptor. I recon a 12 lb heli is alittle hard on the mechanics and will suffer something breaking . and also on the 14s , yes there is a sag of about 400 rpms when run wide open during hard manuvers. but less in gov mode where the gov will catch most of it , in Vegas , Adam Turner sure had a blast with the Ion and the old 14s 5300, and it sure acted alittle different when the TP 14s 3400s was installed , but the 32-4 needs more voltage , like 16s to hit the sweet spot .

Nope, On the ion I have around +-12.

Could be the gyro (611), since I had simular experience on my E-Raptor 90 which I had the same gyro on...

Ive tried from 33-38, really dont want to go higher then that because the risk of burning the 9256.

Maybe its just getting used to..
