well, i see what your going for, more like a chat session, but it messes me up, when i reply to a message and forget something i have to go find the username in the sent and then copy it into a new pm, i think when you reply to something it should either

a) let you reply to it again in your sent box and acculy go to the other person(not yourself)

B) leave a ghost of the message in you inbox which you can reply to again

C) let the users choose there preferences for the inbox, if they want sent messages to be removed or left...

The goal is an empty inbox and a tidy Sent folder.

Your sent folder takes care of it all. In it, click the number next to the member's name. You will be presented with all the older PM's you can then re-reply to.
