Radio - JR & Spektrum DSM > How do I setup trainer mode on the DX7?

I was trying to set up my DX7 to my friends DX7 but for all we tried with the settings, we could not get the connection to go. We looked over the manual but it was very vague. We kept getting the message, NO TRAINEE, on the master transmitter. We used an mono-audio cable to connect the two transmitter's.

Can somebody please explain in detail how they got thier trainer mode to work correctly on two DX7's?

Thanks

Works ok on my radio.

Simplest setup is this:-

Trainer Radio - in Function menu select P-LINK Mode

Trainee's Radio - in Function select SLAVE/P-LINK

Join radio's via cord fitted with 3.5mm mono plugs on both ends, suggest you make this longer rather than shorter, you would be surprised how much people move around while watching a aircraft in flight!

With this setup the Trainers or master radio will have full control off all functions including trims, switches, flight modes etc.

The Trainee will only have control of both joysticks when the Trainer hands over control to the Trainee student by push AND HOLDING the Trainer switch in the up position, control reverts immediately to the Trainer if he takes his finger off the switch.

Note. both radio's don't have to be Spektrums, this will work with JR radios as well.

Have fun

Hey Corona44,
So, then since my transmitter has all the setting of my heli, it is used as Master. Thus, I give my transmitter to the trainer, and use his as the slave.

Does the slave have to be turned off, cause we noticed that it turns on when you plug in the plug.

Also, when does the NO TRAINEE message dissapear?

As I described, the Trainer or Master radio has all the controls and would normally be used by the Instructor.

The slave is the one used by the Student pilot. It has no control until the Instructor presses the TRAINER Switch on the front panel of the DX7. The student will then have control of the aircraft as far as the 2 joysticks are concerned.

The trainer sockets on the back of the radio have additional contacts within them, these switch the radio on when the cable is inserted BUT don't power up the TX part of the radio on students radio, so its not actually transmitting any RF signal.

Of course, it goes without saying that the Master or Trainer radio must be "Bound" to the model being flown.

You should also not the radio can be permanently left in Trainer setup for normal flying, the trainer modes only have effect when the cable is inserted.

Hope this helps
