Computer Flight Simulators > Reflex vs. Phoenix

Interest

I am not connected to ANY sim manufacturer!
I just use the software (FMS and Reflex) (Currently I am testing CRRCSim for Linux (its FREE and so is the Linux operating system I am trying it with)... I am looking for options to help the RC pilot the MOST for the Least of investment, after all I could buy a T-Rex (and some extra's) for the cost of Phoenix.

That was my opinion on these sims ... would like to see other folks rate the categories and add others as necessary.

Regarding FMS ... it's free and you get what you pay for!

You can add a demo category, and sure PxRC would be zero, but from a usability perspective that would probably make RF a 1.5 and Reflex 2. All you can do with those is look at the pretty pictures and peruse the menus/features.

Regarding Reflex custom scenes ... you really haven't made a sceneries with the RSK, otherwise you'd know that it's extremely buggy and requires a Cray to work.

Get what you pay for

My point is that with FMS you get IN THE EXTREME a product for what it costs.
I fly on several scene's I have made with the RSK and Reflex's demo will play back flights just fine (anyone with Reflex 5(or so) can generate one for the Demo). I have FREE scene's for both Reflex and FMS in the downloads section of RC-Sim.de (4H Camp (Winter)). RSK works on my machine...(I've done 5 scene's with it now and I use the RSK to test fly the scenes)

Can someone tell me the shipping address for Reflex in Germany? I need to send back my Dongle for exchange to their new IVol.

4H Camp scenery -- I've actually tried it, but didn't like it. The pictures aren't that crisp, lighting is poor, forget about stitching (errors everywhere) and all the secure zones made it an FPS hog. Funny you mentioned this, as it reminded me of the comments from the author (YOU!) "I don't speek or write German so using the Reflex RSK was a problem." Indeed RSK exists (and has for almost a year now), but it's not really ready for prime consumption, hence why Reflex gets a 1 IMO. Even the PxRC folks will create a scenery if you provide them with all the pictures (same for models), but I still gave them a 1.

The Scene's

I still did the scene's.
Better versions are available if you don't like that one (RC-Sim.de has not posted a later version I sent them (better masks and less security zones (they must be waiting for the big 1000 downloads)). At least I've done scene's. Oh by the way... Reflex IS a processor HOG on most panorama's and I did have to learn enough German to run the interface but it's not that different from Lightwave, or Caligari, or something like that once you get past the German, I learned with Lightwave version 1 on the Amiga 2000!!!!
Lighting was POOR,,, It was a cold Winter day and overcast. Ahh the FREE scene wasn't up to your expectations. I could sell you one that is much better for 1000 dollars US. Send the money FIRST, I don't have a demo.

I prefer the lighting in Phoenix over XTR as well as many other things

My point is the effort required to create a custom scene for Reflex compared to the consistently sloppy results, make Reflex score poorly in the custom scenery category. Not trying to belittle your hard work, but the RSK just doesn't do Reflex justice in that department.

Reflex is a processor hog, but not as bad as RealFlight, yet Phoenix beats them both in that regards, hands down.

Seen Phoenix

No I have NOT seen Phoenix. They don't have a DEMO that I know of.
As far as "sloppy results", I could fix you up with that $1000 dollar version, it MIGHT be less "sloppy", send money first!

LOL, are you saying that if you want to get a professional-looking scenery in Reflex, the cost of the sim will shoot up by $1000 per hit? PhoenixRC keeps looking better and better!

I like FREE sim's myself, I can buy RC helicopters with the money I SAVE.

DDwaneR - Phoenix is ONLY 80 quid. Buy a copy, and see what you think. If you don't like it, you won't have any trouble finding it a new home.

I've just tried something - I ran up Phoenix WITHOUT my dongle attached and I was able to run the demo flights Perhaps you can download 1.03c and just run it. You may or may not need the inital installation CD, I don't know, but this is worth a try.
