Voyager 50 Disappointment

I anxiously waited for the debut of this kit and was so disappointed with the details you mentioned. Bushings weak tail linkage design, small forward fuel tank--blah! Now, With the price JR is asking you would think they would at least have run a full set of bearings. Now, If I could only get that frame set for my Sceadu...Its great. If they want to sell large numbers of these kits they are going to have to do something. For a little more cash you can have Bergen 46 or a Rappy 60.

being quite new to the hobby i can only compare my v 50 to my nexus 30 and their is no comparison the voyager is extremely stable and easy
to fly with more power than i need from the os 50 on 10 % nitro the quality of the kit is very good ,ok their may not be a ball bearing stuffed in every orifice but sometimes an oilite bushing is quite sufficient.I would recomend the v 50 certainly for the sports flyer cannot comment on 3d though

But the the price, the price! Its a great machine but over priced as compared to other comprable kits and their details which are currently on the market.

But with the voyager you dont need any upgrades right away. If you get the raptor you have to add a few upgrades and that adds up too. I wish they sell the voyager a bit cheaper. Saw it for around 500$ on the classified adds with the OS.50 engine. Not too bad of a deal. Still you can buy the voyager at cyberheli for about 550$ with os.50 engine no blades, or you buy the raptor v2.50 with os.50 engine and wood blades for about 430$ also at cyberheli, but then I recommend a few upgrades. clutch, fan, a different muffler. that will add up too
So I think the voyager isnt such a bad deal at all. but the voyager imz is way too much money thats for sure.

I have a Voyager IMZ which I haven't finished building yet and I have to disagree totally.

The IMZ, by contrast, is extremely good value for money considering what you are getting. The Metal head and the Carbon frames of the IMZ alone would set you back $500!! And consider that you get push-pull on the swashplate controls along with split gear and a high grade tail case and you see what I mean when I say for $700 it's really is good value for money. The stock Voyager 50, which I also have but have upgraded many parts on it, does not compare to the IMZ. The stock voyager 50 is expensive, the IMZ (at $250 difference) is extremely good value for money considering what you are getting for that difference. The only thing I would upgrade on an IMZ is the bottom plate and K&S 689 tail pitch change arm.

I agree in regard to the IMZ. I was speaking of the Voyager 50. The IMZ isnt availible here in the US-a shame.

The Price, The Price

There is at least one thing your forgetting here. Horizon takes very good care of there customers. I had a problem with my Voyager 50, it was even bought used. The tail was extremely noisy, I tryed everything to fix it but nothing worked. I talked to a JR Rep at Horizon and two days later I received a new main gear, new tail rotor gear ( the front one) a new bearing holder and three new bearings. That was at NO cost, they didn't ask to see a receipt, they didn't even care where I got it. Was it an honest problem, yes. Was it caused by abuse or a crash, no. But they took my word and were satisfied with my explenation. I have had at least three of these instances with my JR stuff and everytime they came through, and everytime they could have argued that I inadvertantly caused the problem, and maybe they'd be correct.

That's my 2 cents worth.

the issue is still there

I'm sure Horizon has amazing support for their customers. But the issue still remains: the Voyager 50 is not much value for money.

Consider this: flimsy tail pitch change mechanism, single boom support, not constant tail drive, 2 servos going direct to swashplate instead of bell cranks first (not even push-pull, but K&S does do a kit for this but you have to drill holes and they only reccomend that for carbon framed voyager 50s!!), belt drive, bushings and grp/metal swashplate. Selling at Cyberheli for $450 or thereabouts.

I believe that a Fury Expert 50 is selling for about $600 in the States, and what you get for $150 more is much. much more.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Voyager 50 (and I have an IMZ too), but with hindsight I know where my money could have been better spent.

The Voyager 50 is lighter than the Fury 50 expert, it also hovers better and autos better and is easier to maintain (I've crashed mine plenty of times, whereas I've never crash a fury when I owned one). But the Fury 50 has an upgrade path to an Extreme and that's what I think most people should be considering unless they only want to commit to a 50 size or use it as their "crash and learn" machine like me.
