Radio - JR & Spektrum DSM > DX7 - short Tx battery life?

Hello, I wish to ask if anyone has had to replace the Spektrum DX7's battery pack yet? After about 4-5 months, probably 40hrs total "on" time, I have that the "low battery" display comes on a lot quicker now. Usually I recharge it for 24 hours once it hits 8.0-9.0v, but now, the "low battery" indicator will show up after 1 hour.

- Anyone know of a place to purchase a higher capacity battery pack for the DX7?

Thanks for anyones input

What is the voltage after a full charge? You may just have a dead cell.

FYI Feb 2007
The Spektrum team realizes that the charger included in the DX7 is not optimal for charging the Tx battery in a convenient, overnight fashion. Although the current charger works adequately with additional charge time, future production will include the higher rate charger as referenced in the instruction manual. If you intend to use the 50mah charger, please increase the charge time to 30hrs for the Tx and 22hrs for the Rx.

I have had my DX7 for a while and I still get around three and a half hours with each charge. I have put around 80-100hrs on time on it.

I sent my battery back to Horizon last week. I think I have a bad cell in the pack because it will charge up fully, 1500 mah, and it will discharge fine all of it to 1300 to 1400 mah, however it will drop to under 9 volts after the first 30 minutes or so and then hold there for the next couple of hours. If I fully charge it on the slow charger for over 24 hours, and the let it sit for 2 or 3 days, it will be at less than 9 volts. After a full charge, it reads 11.2 to 11.5 volts. My guess is one cell will not hold a charge.
I put a different 1700 mah pack in the radio and had not problems.
I expect Horizon to replace the bad back for me.

This is my exact problem just as described! 30 minutes after a 30+ hour charge, and it goes from 11.x volts to under 9 volts. It also goes below 9 volts after charging for 30+ hours and sitting for 2-3 days.

Thanks! I will contact Horizon for a possible replacement battery. If not, then I will purchase the JR one as suggested by kamuela's post.

I have also had trouble with my transmitter battery. After reading some posts, I thought it was the charger. So I purchased an Accu-Cycle. However, once I got the cycler, I found that I could only get 250 mah out of it and it would only take about 260 mah going in.

I don't have time to wait for a replacement, so I bought a 2500 mah hour pack today. Will send the bad battery back tomorrow.

So don't blame it all on the charger. I think there are some bad batteries out there.

Happy Flying
