I puchaced a new Hurrican 50 a week ago. It went together like a dream, great instructions and quality parts. My first ccpm heli and what a differance...Wow it fly's steady and true. Installed Spectrum DX7 with OS Hyper 50 engine. What a blast im having. It gave me much more confidence.
Anyone else have a hurricane? Let me know what you think of it.

Thanks

I hope that you didn't install the servos that come with the DX-7 as the standard servo in that 50. JR says NOT to use the DS821 in anything bigger than a 30, since the output shafts break "due to vibration".

If you're using a different servo, have at it. But if you're using those DS821s (maybe re-labeled), it's a crash waiting to happen.

New Guidelines for DS821 Servo Use
Tuesday, February 20, 2007

The DS821 servo is a powerful, accurate sport digital servo recommended for RC airplane applications up to 1.20-size. For helicopters, the DS821 operates best with 30-size glow models, and up to 50-size electric. Loads and vibration in larger models may cause premature failure of the servo resulting in damage or injury to property and persons.

Important: Do not use liquid thread lock with the DS821 servo!

Do not use any form of liquid thread lock to secure the servo arm screw to the output shaft of the DS821 servo. Chemicals in these liquids react with the polycarbonate gear set causing the plastic to become brittle, fracturing the final output gear.

There are pictures over on the Hirobo forum showing a DS821 that was used on the elevator function of an EVO 50. The output shaft sheared off clean as a whistle while the fellow was hovering.

Though they say the DS821 is fine for 50 sized electrics, I would NOT put them in a heli on any flight control, period. I have ONE installed in a Caliber 5, but only on throttle. That's about as adventurous as I expect to get with the 821.

Saw one shear the shaft on a 46 size Extra 300 aileron (dual servo setup) Throttle servos or parachute drops.

In my case I had 2 servos actually break while I was installing them and another on a throttle. I've never managed to break an output shaft on any servo before.

At that point I spoke to the UK distributor who offered me the retail price back on them. I got £80 back.

IMHO you should not fit them to anything and speak to your dealer with your concerns before doing anything else.

I have one of these on the way, we will see how it works, will be very cool not to worry about someone flipping on a trans during your flight.

I've got one on the way also, looks like a neat way to go 2.4GHz and not have the added radio expense, we'll see how it works out.
