Gohbee Aviation Stinger 30-90 > Tail shudder

I was just out tweaking my Stinger 50 and it seems to have a shudder in the tail when I punch the throttle. If I back off a bit, it settles right down. OS 50, running smooth.

Thanks

Check your tail belt tension after the heli has been out in the cold for a while.
good tension set up at home will be loose enough to slip when cold.

I tightened it at the field. I'll check the belt in general too. What about a one-way bearing slipping? Any other places to look?

The dang thing flips and rolls like a banshee. It's going to be fuuuuun.

Thanks

A slipping one way would cause all kinds of weird problems although I have not run into one yet.

I guess I am not entirely sure about what you mean by a "shudder".

Jeff~
Terry and I were out Sunday and it looks like the clutch and/or bell need replacing. I could start hovering at about 1800 and then after a couple of pitch/throttle pumps I would be hovering at 2100+ in nearly the same place. It didn't want to grab if I advanced slowly up.
I hope this was causing the tail thing.
By shudder, I define as solid and then it wobbles back and forth a few times, then straightens out again.
My 401 gain is at 75%, we tried less too.
I should get my parts by the weekend for another test run.
Thanks

Do you have the original clutch lining in there or was it replaced at some point?
The original liner is a black rubbery material that grabs very solid till it is completely worn out.

Jeff~
I'm not the original owner, but the liner is the rubbery sort. I noted that when I took it apart.

The replacement is in the USPS now. Will it be rubber too or more TT like?

If you ordered the liner from Gohbee it should be the rubbery one.
I have never gotten one of them to slip.

A couple of other things to check.
Put on your pitch gauge and bring the stick slowly to mid stick. Do the blades stop right on zero degrees?
Now raise the stick to the top and come down slowly to mid stick. Do the blades again hit zero degrees.
If there is a differenc between going up and coming down then there is either slop or binding in the system.
This could cause there to to be at a different pitch in hover after every stick move.

What radio do you have? 75% Gain is a little low for a JR but a little high for a Futaba.

I'll check later today for the pitch slop.
I'm using a 9C for controller.

Thanks

For what it's worth I am running 63% gain on my Futaba transmitters.

Hope to have it sorted some more by this weekend. I found the tail case bearings had slop in the case and would wiggle about a bit. Little by little I'm getting this thing nailed down.

Used heli = other's issues.
