Can you list suppliers for your DD brushless tail components? it might be helpful in trying to track some of these things down. Thanks much!

Right - I hyperlinked my list of components in my first post - Clicking on a component takes you to it

You have any pics...

OK here's a couple quick pics of just the tail - I'm tinkering at the moment and might have more interesting pics to share later -

For wiring I used an 18" servo extension run along the exterior of the tail boom - Looks like tvr_vixen_2500 did the same

Update:
I pealed the 3 wires apart so they fit through the stock tail boom and I reinforced my tail boom with a 7/32 aluminim sleeve and bore my frame and tail box with a 7/32 bit - The bit stretched the plastic as it bored out some material so the reinforced boom is a tight fit that doesn't need glue to secure - So now it's just as clean as a stock tail and with a near indestructable boom

TVR, how is the ESky gyro? Which one is that? I've been asked many times about that gyro.

Turn on a dime. Flip like a quarter. Feel like a million bucks.

Oh...i am using this esky HL Gyro with a ICS100 tail ESC,
it works great in HL mode. Light weight and good price tag.

When it's initalization end, it would make your tail motor spinning for a while, so you need to prepare to pull back the rudder stick to all left.(it is normal, if the rudder is controlled by a servo instead, then it turns and back to the postion)

I haven't got any Futaba HL gyro, but this one already make me happy with it

Hey Gino

Its an ek2-0704A I like it because it works exactly as it should. It's not given me any odd surprises it always works right. Easy set up and a nice way to use it without a 5th channel

OK, brushless parts arrived today. I might have missed it, so please help and old guy out. What size screws are required? I don't want to accidently use the wrong size and screw up the motor.

Thanks for the help!

They're 1.65mm - But the 1.65x3mm one's I ordered with it are too short IMO - I turned our LHS upside down looking for longer suitable screws but didn't find anything - I ended up forcing some 1-72 screws - Then Hodakaguy gave me a GWS DD adaptor set that had some longer 1.6mm motor mount screws that worked good - Kinda expensive way to acquire a couple small screws though - It's ridiculous they don't supply proper mounting screws with these motors -

The 2 small screws on the right are them.

A thought. It looks like the motor is mounted in the normal position. Based on the pitch of the prop, it would appear that the prop is going to have to turn backwards so as to counter the main rotor torque. I hate to turn things backwards. What about turning around the mount and mounting the motor from the right hand side of the boom? That way the prop can turn in the "right" direction, pulling the tail against the main rotor torque.

What say you?

If you're talking about the direction the prop spins in relation to the main rotor wash then it's the same no matter how you mount it - You'd have to find a reverse pitch prop to spin it the correct direction - Either way I think it's best if the press-on prop is pushing against the motor rather than pulling away from the motor.

This should make for a fun conversion. I'm going to install it on my MicroHeli airframe. I have this insanely small HH gyro that I'll use. Currently configured with an E-Flite 3 in 1, going completely separate with the little ESC and gyro should be lighter and more compact than the 3 in 1.

I was going to install this in my HoneyBee CP2, but the MicroHeli with the long 'glass HeliDirect blades is such a great flier that I thought it deserved the better tail. Oh, did I mention that the long 'glass blades sound so cool in the air.

Speaking of sound, the MicroHeli main gear with autorotation hub runs very true and quiet. So much so that my wife asked it something was wrong with the heli. She is so used to the sound of the others.

Sounds nice - I've resisted using an auto-rotation gear myself because micro helis really don't auto-rotate worth a hoot and I'd rather have the blade inertia bleed off as much as possible between the time I hit throttle-hold and it hits the ground - I rarely break blades in BCP crashes but I seem to always break blades when my auto hub equipped H2 goes in - My BCP and $45 V-blades have survived a lot of dead duck drops from high altitudes even (soft turf helps).

SOoooooo Frustrating

Did the direct drive conversion this afternoon. It appears that the tail ESC failed within the first minute of flight.

Tail went completely dead. I've tried different receivers, but all that happens with the tail ESC is a series of rising beeps. Tried the programming procedure as noted in the ESC instructions, but no response.

So right off the bat, one dead tail ESC. I'm not happy. Am I missing something? Tail worked on initial startup. Made sure that response was correct left/right. Spooled up for flight, hovering about chest high, making note of rudder trim required, when lost the tail entirely. Stinks, big time.

By the way, quite the piro when the tail failed, but still managed a safe touch-down in the middle of the kitchen floor.

OK, checked out the CastleCreations web site. Based on the continuous rising tone, the FAQ's seem to indicate a problem with the ESC's processor. I've sent CastleCreations an E-mail. Sort of pissed, as I just bought the ESC from BPHobbies this past week. Delivered this past Thursday, I finally had the opportunity to do the install today.

Hopefully, I'll get some answers and resolution to this problem quickly.

Hey what settings are you guys using on the tail ESC? I have a pheonix 10 on mine and am curious what you have your set to.

I have my rudder travel at 100%, submicro Telebee HH Gyro with rate and HH gain set at 50% as a starting point. The gyro mode is switcheable on the TX. Once I can get it to fly again, I'll note the final gain selections.
