Has anyone here converted their MS Composit Sea Knight to the 3 bladed rotor head? I need some advice, I can't seem to get mine off the ground.

Wow, the ground was closer than I thought.

The main trick with the 3 blade head is plenty of headspeed, is it actuallly lifting off or is it uncontrollable? If its uncontrollable remember to cut down on the amount of pitch and dial in a lot of EXP to begin with say 30% and work from there, the 3 blade head setup is very sensitive compared to the two blade

Hope this helps

Well, 2 problems. I don't know the right phasing for the heads, and the speed control is surging.

I found the phasing difficult as well, bearing in mind that one head is the opposite rotation and that ultimately the swash to blade holder links nead to be completely vertical you have to trial the phase guides with the pins on top or upside down with the grub screw against a flat on the mainshaft to get the right result, it isnt easy and the instructions are not particulalry clear.

Is it the MS Composit ESC? did you get the same behaviour with the two blade setup? apart from checking settings is everything mechanically free? If it is the MS ESC do you get a single or double beep on arming, if its a double beep you are in governor mode which will surge the motor when you get to 50% throttle it takes a bit of getting used too.

It is all MS, mixers, ESC and all. Never had it running with the 2 blade heads. Bought it off of a RR member back in November, and just got around to messing with it.

Hi Helimaniac, whats actually happening? is the front or rear lifting off first? you need to make absolutely certain that the pitch is identical on the front and rear heads.

Wind up lots of rpm on the rotor heads too I found a high headspeed to be the biggest trick. after that you need to spend a long time making sure mechanically everything is correct

SET UP

MADKEN I test flew it a couple times and I finally got lift off but I seem not to be able to get the differential pitch no matter what I try I have it set up as per instructions only my radio has gyro setup for that chanel I use a futaba 8U What should I see with the differential will I be able to notice a lot of movement? I am thinking I have a bad mixer

Thanks
