Gohbee Aviation Stinger 30-90 > So I was about to buy .50 Raptor Titan...

and then I decided to check out this Gohbee Stinger .50. At first I thought, hmmm...I might be able to save a few bucks, but it seems the parts supply of TT is quite good.

Then I read that a lot of the TT parts are interchangeable w/ Gohbee... Okay, but is it the same quality? I've been doing the research and it *seems* the quality is on par or better.

I'm impressed w/ the web site and everything I have read is nothing short of glowing in regards to their customer service. The replacement prices seem quite fair too... Am I missing something?

I realize asking this question in the "Gohbee" forum is probably asking for a biased reply, but I'm listening...

Here's my experience in heli's so far... I've been flying since ~Dec of .06. I first learned my hover orientations on an Esky Honeybee FP (tail-in, side and nose-in). I then got a Esky CP2 and can fly it competently in fff. I can do loops and rolls. I am currently building a nice T-Rex 450. In my old G2 simuluator, I am currently trying to learn how to fly a heli backwards. It's coming, but it's dang hard!

The reason I'm looking into gas is that very soon I will be joining a local AMA field. Prior to this, I have been meeting up w/ a bunch of electric (mainly planes) flyers at a local undeveloped park and was having a blast. Now we're kicked out of the park!

The T-Rex 600 is appealing to me, however, I can't fathom spending ~$200 per battery pack and only have ~6 minute flights. Everything I've read has said a .50 is a great all around heli.

Any thoughts/advice on a Stinger .50 purchase would be much appreciated!

Regards,
Pete

My small experience with Gohbee. I bought a Clutch bell from them for my Raptor. When you buy the Thunder tiger part, it consists of the bell, liner and the bearing already in the bell. The Gohbee part was I think around $5 cheaper, but it did not include the bearing and the liner was made of rubber-like material, destroyed after 1 short hot start. If your existing bearing is good it's not a bad deal. Just be aware that your not necessarily comparing apples to apples.

I also bought a few clutches from them. The material they are made of is definately better than the thunder tiger clutch, but I have not gotten one yet (3) that has a functional one-way bearing. I just put the one-way bearing from my broken thunder tiger clutches in the Gohbee clutch.

I did have a problem getting the Parts to fit in my Raptor and David at Gohbee went way above and beyond to make things right.

I think the Stingers are awesome! The quality is definatly there. 2L Time; I don't understand what has happened with the clutches you bought! I've never had a bad one way from Gohbee. I have a Stinger .50 and .90 and both perform flawlessley. Never even had to replace a clutch liner at all. I flew about 12 gal. last season and neither heli need a clutch yet. I've even had a couple of hot starts with the .50 (hyper) and the original liner is still fine. I'd have to say that I think the liners wear quite well! Gohbee service can't be beat, and the quality is good. Gohbee has not been without problems, but David always works hard to correct any problem to prevent the same problem from re-occuring in the future.

gohbee products

i have three 90s and a 50.i have never had any trouble with my 50s one way bearing, but on my sons 90 with a ys 91 in it,it keeps eating one way bearings.i have tried gohbees and i all so have tried tt's heavy duth ones and the same thing.the bearings have the same number on the bearings so its not a matter of which ones better.other than that the gohbes are great helis.i'e never had any other parts that dont interchange with one an other.my son and i are currently field reps for gohbee and david is a great guy to deal with.he takes pride in his products and i stand behind him.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer in the thread, I really appreciate it!

So...I have heard from one gentlemen through PM that he thinks the quality of the metal in the head on the Gohbee is low quality and that this develops slop over time. This person had bought a used Stinger .50. That does not seem to be your experiences?

He did remind me that the T-Rex 600 glow should be coming out shortly. I know I've been totally impressed w/ the quality of T-Rex 450 parts and the prices are very reasonable... Problem is, I HATE WAITING!!!

My Gohbee preforms just as good as any of my Rappys do. I like it and I like the under slung head as opposed to Rappys head. But that just my thoughts. Its a great heli for the price. Customer service is grand, the Gohbee I have was actually a gift from David to correct a Rappy parts problem I had. So that kinda says alot about the customer service right there. My Gohbee is kinda the ginnie pig of all my helis. Any new thing I try is always with the Gohbee 1st. Once I get it down then I run it through my Rappys, then last on my Evos. The main thing I love about Gohbee is that other then the head, per say if Dave is ever out of stock on parts I can always get a Rappy part to get my heli back up in the air again fast. Head slop?? Dont have any here. So I dont understand the remarks about the head. Get a Gohbee you will be happy. Or get a TT, if you going that route. I am old school Hirobo so you kno what my answer would be in my honesty, if not its in my signature..

I don't think the metal in the Gohbee heads is inferior at all! There IS an identical heli being sold in Asia under a different name. From what I have read it seems THAT one may have inferior quality. It is possible that a few of those made it to North America and that's why in my opinion there are a few people who think that the Gohbee is inferior. The finish on the metal parts is different than most too. It's a finish that looks somewhat like a cast aluminum, but it is NOT cast! The parts are machined just like all the other good quality parts out there. The genuine Gohbee product is good. I flew both my .50 and .90 all last season, and there is no slop in either head whatsoever. I know it's hard to believe that there really is a good quality product at a great price but it really does exsist! Gohbee all the way!

wheelman: I appreciate your response! This gentleman had purchased the Stingers used so that makes sense that there could've been some inferior aftermarket parts put on it.

I'm very impressed w/ the price of the combo package w/ OS Hyper motor, muffler, 401 gyro and servo...

I think I'm going to wait until the glow T-Rex 600 comes out before I pull the trigger... I figure it'll be between these two... Too bad that the estimated release date is the end of April...

Thanks again for everyone's replies and feel free to keep them coming!

Regards,
Pete

I must admit the 600 nitro sounds interesting indeed! I think i'm going to stick with my Stingers for a long time though. I have a limited heli budget so they are perfect for me. I honestly think you can't beat the bang for the buck the Stingers offer. The 600 will likely be lighter, but also likely more $$. David at Gohbee is working on a newer frame design that will be lighter and will accomodate either nitro OR Electric! (also ECCPM I believe) There will be a conversion kit available for those who wish to "convert" their older Stinger design to the newer one as it will share many of the same major components. This is only "on the drawing board" at this point though. Perhaps you should phone David and have a chat with him about this. I'm sure he'll tell you what he can about this.

wheelman: Funny, I've been corresponding with Dave over email regarding his products. The accolades regarding his customer service are well deserved!

I was honest with him and told him I would probably wait until the T-Rex 600 glow came out before I made a decision. That's when he told me of the upcoming frame and he also said that he respected my decision making process.

I have to say that dealing with him over email "leans" me towards purchasing his products a lot more.

Ya, good luck getting customer service even close to his from Align! I find the smaller companies give better service usually. I'm not saying the Align products are bad by any means, I just think the Gohbee products suit my budget better. After dealing with David, I know I'll be a Gohbee customer for a long time. Whatever you decide you'll enjoy the hobby! The challenge of R/C helicopters keeps me out of trouble. I can't wait to see what Gohbee has to offer next!
