Has anyone tried mounting anyother kind of canopy on the hurrican?
I managed to get a custom painted raptor canopy mounted on mine. It was just laying around so what the hell.

Needs a little adjustment but I think it will look fine.

Canopy

Looks like a cool paint job, but the canopy looks like a funny shape

Yea it needs to be pulled back and raised just a bit. I hate to drill another hole in it. I sent my hurrican canopy off to joe to get painted.

Ive seen his. It looks good on there. I do think it could cover the frame a tad more. Like the hurrican canopy does but oh well. I was just farten around. I am trying to sale that canopy right now so I wont be doing any mods to it.

i don't think theres anything in it as far as covering the frames up it could just be the angle of the photo, personally i think the best canopy to get for the hurrican is the airskipper canopy looks better and is far better quality

Hurrican canopy

My Hurrican canopy is a lot better than the first ones they had, I have the new painted canopy, and it is a tad thicker.

I flew mine and had no problems out of it. I checked the thickness of the canopy and it is the same as my other fg canopies. I would just have it repainted. It could also be the kind of paint they use.

I like the Hurrican canopy. When its in the air it looks as if it just wants to fly!

I have had a AS dint like it much. And I'm not into that plastic stuff. I like my custom painted fg canopies

I like the look of the Hurrican canopy over the AS canopy anyhow.

Which canopy did your friend have the all yellow Hurrican canopy??? that was the old original version, it wasn't painted it was yellow throughout in the mold mixed into the fiberglass when poured, the new ones come with the winshield painted not a screw on cover. The new ones are also a few mm thicker and come either all white, yellow fade to white at the bottom or red fade to white at the bottom. The new kits are all shipped with the painted white gelcoat and black painted winshield.

hi foxden
my friend has the new one, yellow into fade with white bottom, it is so thin its like paper, i know its done for lightness but this is not good enough, let me tell you one more thing my buddy has has been flying heli's since the early eighties so he's no newby he knows what he's doing, now the canopy is ruined and not even flown i have had a little meddle with it and you can flex any part of the canopy just a little and it will start to crack, whether this is a one-off i don't know, you tell me can you bend your canopy on the edges and not crack it, tell me how far you can bend it, i live only one mile down the road from the uk distriutor so i've seen a few kits and they all look the same to me

Dude it really sounds like you just a die hard AS guy. And your here just to bash on this canopy. Sorry if I sound harsh. But I assure you I have delt with more canopies than you know. You see my brother paints them. And yes you can take (any) canopy flex it and the paint will crack. It just depends on the paint. And how its applied. And now I am really going to sound rude and I am not trying to be. But if your friend has been doing this for so long then how did he let his canopy get tore up? I've been in this hobby for many years and have a lot of time and money into it. I fly everything from a 7 thousand dollar turbine to a blade cp. And truethly the only canopy or body I have ever manged to damage is the on shown in the pic above. And it is the same thickness EXACT thickness as the Hurrican canopy. Sorry I just take good care of my canopies. I make sure no kids get ahold of them, wipe them clean with the proper products. You get my point.

Why are you responding to this post if you dont even own a Hurrican?

This is why I prefer the pit.

ok okcheli
i'm not going to get involved in this anymore because i'm talking about something that does'nt even belong to me, all i can say is that i've seen it with me own eyes the gel coat cracks (NOT PAINT) when you just flex it a little bit, thats all i'm saying

Yes I know what your talking about. And yes gelcoat will crack. I normal do not gelcoat my canopies. Becouse if you do have a crash the gelcoat cracks. If you use a auto paint and primer. With the right clear coat your paint job will survive a crash. The reason for gelcoat is for a much better tun out on the paint job itself.

But if you take a plastick painted canopy and flex it. It will crack the pain just as easily. I didnt mean to sound harsh but a canopy is realy not meant to be tossed around so to speak. The only flexing going on should be what it takes to spread it apart to get over the frame. I'm not saying that your friend does not have a problem I am just saying that the Hurrican canopy is not to thin to support paint.

thanks for the info, i was'nt going to reply anymore but i felt i should this last time because of some thing you have just picked up on, the canopy i'm talking about is the fg hurrican canopy, i assume it is gel-coat then paint on top, all the damage has been done by simply spreading it over the frames, this is my point, it could be a one-off, i don't know but that is what has happened

slinky its sounds like you are amongst die hard hurrican enthusiasts and theres is nothing wrong with being happy with your model the trouble is some times you get amongst folk that are Promoting these Products and they forget that this is a forum to share ideas and experiences if your friend has had a poor canopy and it’s the new version I am sure with his experience he will take your advise and buy an alternative I wonder how many folk actually let kids play with there models ie painted canopy before they go and fly lol.
