Obsessive,
I ask Mark if he could just removed the ip logged text , just voting for location.. Hope he would get it done

Folks,
I do appreciate all of your concern about the ip logged issue, so it's fair to keep that ip logged by the host server (runryder.com).

Thanks, let us all just vote for the location ONLY..

Hackers would love everyone's IP addresses..... kinda like giving them a key to your house.

Sorry but that is simply not the case.
Anytime you post on Usenet your IP is in the header for all to see.

If you are connected to the net and dont run a firewall like ZoneAlarm etc then you should.
In the case you do have a firewall , ignore script kiddies beating on the firewall and live happly ever after.

I think IP's here would be a good idea here.
The only people who try to hide their IP on Usenet IME are spammers and anonymous bigots.

No one here is trying to be an anon poster and IP's would sort out "nymshifters".

I know what you're saying MPA... you're right.. but I'm willing to bet 80% of internet users don't have a firewall to work behind... I personally do have a firewall, as I knew the risks being an IT professional as well, but at least in areas like this, security is way behind.. we're talking an area of NY that sees indoor plumbing almost a major breakthrough in technology (kidding, but gets my point across). Headline news in this area can consist of "Bessie the cow pumps out record amount of milk" ... etc With the right tools, you can cause problems for someone with their current IP address... Just don't see the use for users to know everyone's IP addresses, but most certainly the web admin needs to be able to track these things.... just my opinion

It is a good idea, but ...

only if it is not public. Logging ips for later use server side is great for both yours and your patrons protection, but making them public can also get you in trouble. Having access to another users ip can give a disgruntled patron access to another patrons machines. If any damage occurs, the propreitor who published the information can be held liable.

My vote is to log ips server-side...make a note on screen that the ip is logged, and only use the ips when a reson exists that woudl warrant it.
