I need help with a sail plane setup. I had a Great Planes Spirit 2-Meter Sailplane Kit 78.5" which I modified to accept a Master Airscrew Electric flight pac 3.0:1 gear 12x8 floding prop and 7.2V Hi performance 05 motor. I used 2 sub micro servos for the rudder and elevator and it was probably too heavy, but I used a mechanical esc from a car I had and a standard servo (the esc also had a big resistor). I used an 1800 ma 7.2 volt pack. (I also had another small pack for the reciever). When I tried to fly it, the motor wasn't strong enough to pull it at all and it went a couple of yards ahead of me and crashed nose first, breaking one of the props. What should I do to get this thing flying? I am thinking about getting an electronic esc and not having the extra pack. Will that little difference in weight make that much difference. Is anyone familiar with this motor/gearbox. Is it possible to run this motor on more volts or should I change the motor, if it is possible for this gearbox to accept another motor. What should I do.

Weight

I can remove 3.52 ounces of weight by taking out my speed control/servo setup and just putting a manual switch directly connected to the motor/battery. I could also use a battery .8 ounces lighter. Also I can add an extra cell, I noticed that the motor can accept 7 cells. Well this make it fly??

Weight

The fuselage with 2 submicro servos, reciever, motor/gearbox weighs about 19 - 22 ounces. The wings weigh 12 and my 6 cell battery weighs 11.5. Is something too heavy.

www.ezonemag.com. You might try motocalc as far as getting the right power setup for your airframe. I think you can download a 30 day eval at www.motocalc.com.
