Hello everyone. I've been out of the sport for a long time and was wondering if there is any parts available for these two early helicopters. I think that 10 to 15 years ago I put them away and now would like start flying again.

Hi,
Maybe an older Hobby shop or the best place is you see them on E-bay once in awhile. Otherwise souces have pretty much dried up.

Thanks for the reply. I started taking apart the Cricket and the parts were falling apart. The thing with the cricket was how easy it was to fly. The last time I flew it someone turned my freg. on and I screwed it in. I bought most of the parts to put it back together but at the time I just put the whole thing away. Many years later this is where I am. Maybe I should just buy new. However the Mantis was never crashed. It was also very simple and I will get it out of the closet and see how it does.

Thanks for the reply again

Hi,
I had a Cricket myself. If you think it was easy to fly, you will be hovering inverted in a week on a new chopper. The new ones are much easier to fly. Harder to build and setup, but much easier to fly

I remember the cricket was a blast to fly , but the 1.5mm piano wire that acted as a spring damper on the rotor teeter almost always broke , think i used a 2mm wire afterwards.. it's a cool little heli ..

RHD is right!!

Howdy!!
If you thougt that the fixed pitch Cricket with its pesky teter dampner was "easy" to fly, you are in for quite a suprise. Go buy a Raptor 30 and find out just how far modern heli's have come. Then realize that that most modern 60 size choppers blow the little Rappy away in both power, aerobatics, and auto-rotation ability. If the old Cricket was a 1950 Ford sedan, than a modern 60 is an Acura NSX. The little Rappy could be called a Honda Civic. Cheap, reliable, and easy to drive..

GMP Cricket parts exchange

At the web site we take donation of parts to help out other cricket owners, or you can trade a part for a part. It has been very sucessfull. Did you get all the parts you needed? I want to see pics of that heli flying!!! I know a guy who makes the H300 Canopy and plastic seat set!

inspectorfuzz - i'm busted! haha - yea the potato couch is 20 years old ... it's old french style leather from the 80's , bon marche .. there are two of the retro's in my living room , plenty room for superfly and the goils ... ya know you got me thinking now - hehe!

mrcricket
yes it will look nice once I get a the canopy and new bearings from your source, the rest I have, should be very interesting to see it fly again. keep you posted on this project .

now do you remember this setup? - it's the 1st generation hirobo mechanics that came with my gazelle, tow cobra, and iroquois amongst other scales .. they sound like turbine engines when they are running . with new bearing and molybdenum they are good to fly. the belt in the back is a period correct speed up unit putting out 5.75 revolutions for the tail. pretty fast in those days of 4.25 tails. the bottom output is the engine drive output 1 to 1 .. thats 10+ tail revo's for one main rotor revo , way too fast for any tail.

heli classics like these are great ..
