ohh i see you had to actually remove some alloy of the cooling piece ont he motro ...?
Why is this?

I dont understand becasue it comes from factory like this so how come the carb and needle doesnt fit in normal ?
Did you move the needle sideways or something so it created the situation that you had to grind a bit of the cooler ?
You see the carb is attached to motor when you buy it hence i am a bit confused why the motor stop needle is in the position you have it ?
Thats would mean its a design fault ?

Should think it's because the carb has to be turned through 180 degrees looking at photos of the engine, just a guess but this would explain the need for the head modding.

Contact303, you said that there was no cutting needed to the hs56hb, but as far as I know, the hs56 has those tabs which as far as I can see really need to be removed in order to fit the frame?
Also, what holes did you use then, the upper or the lower holes of the hs56?

Well I've had her airborn for a a couple of tanks but have an annoying oscillation, anybody else suffered this. I have loosened of the nuts on the feathering shaft a little as they were pretty damn tight as this is the only cause I can think of, tail blades are nice and free and main blades not to tight either but its pouring here at the moment so cant test fly again.

Secondly what sort of needle settings should I be looking towards, have had to lean the low end about 1/3 of a turn and the high end is down to 4 clicks in from 2 turns out at the mo, don't want to lean it out to early.

Cheers.

Oscillation could be due to unbalanced blades---main and tail. These blades are pretty cheap.

Try this one :

Its the root for protech zoom 450 Parts
Tank : I have to say since i use 20% coolpower my flight time is about 7 mins thats more then enough for me ...and i need a break then ...
I dont think its worth sticking another tank on it because of the weight
But really the one and only Issue I had was flight times because the 25% Nitro i used was rubbish and the heli needed far to much nitro
Since moving to coolpower 20% heli Nitro this is all gone
I just love this little heli ...and thinking back i almost sold it ...LOL silly me

My 450 IC Pro was waiting for me when I got home from work this evening

There's an OS 18 on the way from another shop, and tomorrow I'll be on my way over to the LHS for the rest of the needed bits and pieces.

I'll be outfitting it with Hitec HS 65 MG cyclic servos, GY 401 gyro with JR 3400G tail servo, Spektrum AR 7000 RX, and eventually the OS engine, for now I'll use the included 12 of unknown manufacture.

Tonight I'll start the process of threadlocking all the fasteners...

I think this Heli will fit in nicely with my Trex 450 and Raptor 30

I learned to fly on a Trex, I learned to crash on a Blade CP...

Not for the Zoom engine specifcally, but probably very close to these specs for a generic 0.12 car engine...

Horsepower: .55 BHP at 29,000 RPM
RPMs: 3,000 - 30,000 practical range, 38,000 max

I've run a few tanks of fuel through mine now and find the stock engine to be more than adequate for sport flying. I've got a new in box OS 18CV-R on the bench that I'll install at some point after I do a little machining on the head to make it fit better.

Best thing I've done so far is add a header tank to the Zoom, gives more consistant running and 1 1/2 minutes more on the flight times...

ahh rccarguy , how are you liking the 450ic? I'm thinking of getting one possibly sometime in the future but still haven't decided.

I think it's great little machine. For some unknown reason, the idea of a 450 size nitro powered heli appeals to me, after I read the test in RC-Heli I knew I had to have one.

Is it for everyone? No, not by a long shot. If you're into 3D flying, you'll probably quickly get bored with the Zoom. While it performs well for what it is, it really isn't a high performance machine. Beside the Zoom I also have a Trex 450 SE and a Raptor 30. The Zoom can pretty much do whatever the Raptor can if you you're careful about collective management, neither machine has a surplus of power. The Zoom will turn quicker than the Raptor simply because it's smaller and lighter, they're probably fairly close in the power to weight department.

Compared to the Trex, the Zoom isn't even close in ability. Doesn't mean that the Zoom is any less fun to fly, just that it needs to be flown with a different mindset, things that are a piece of cake with the Trex probably shouldn't be attempted with the Zoom in stock form.

The only real downside to the Zoom that I can see is the cost. The Pro version is not a cheap machine and by the time you get it outfitted with decent electronics, you can easily have $1000 or more tied up in it. For someone that doesn't mind the cost and is looking for a small nitro heli that is unique and performs well with little maintenance, then the Zoom may well be the machine you want.
