Nut house

Hard to say cause you kinda forget (or at least try to), after awhile! At least for me anyways! It should be more like, if your phone or hydro gets cut off because you just had to have that next heli, THEN, it's time for a trip to the nut house!Hehehe!
Or, if your car breaks down but you decided to buy another heli engine instead of fixing your car......it's time for the looey bin!
Hehehe!

I have made a Excel-sheet where all spent $$$ are registered. So I know how much I have spent on my Shuttle and Freya.

Well, as student being, it is far to much in comparison with my monthly student-income. But I like the hobby so much

A hint

When you come home from work and you yell "honey I'm home" and all you get is an echo, It might be time to step back and take a look at yourself.

How much "IS" How Much???!!!???

When I saw this thread, I decided to check into my desk drawer and found (believe it or not) most of the reciepts that I kept of things I have spent on this hobby.............after getting past the $10K mark, I decided to stop counting....... And that was only the total for the last month!! (Hehehehe)

Seriously though, I know I've spent quite a bit of my salary on the heli related stuff. And they say that drugs are addictive.........

When compared to other hobbies like golfing or fishing we have a cheap hobby. Consider a jet ski that costs 8-$10,000, or how about $100.00 every Sat for greens fees, or $15,000.00 for a bass boat, or a decent woodworking shop costs~$10,000.00. Consider the guy with no hobby, but just goes to the bar after work everyday or every friday and drops $100.00 or more a week on drinks and bad pickup lines.(well some of mine were pretty good)
The real problem starts when a person has more than one of these hobbies then you start spending a lot more.

Yep - I was the golf freak before planks and then helis... It was easily $150 per week and I decided that since I wasn't too good I would try something else. I had to rationalize also, that to play golf meant spending at least a couple of evenings at the range, one outing on the weekend and one in the league during the week. At least for RC I can take the stuff to work and grab a quick flight at lunch (I am close to our field) or stop and get a couple of flights in on the way home. Wife likes it better, and so so the kids. ha ha ha I also "rationalized" that every ten weeks or so I could get a new toy.... but that hasn't worked out so I am actually saving a little money.... RIGHT...

Well, I quit counting a long time ago...Fixing a heli instead of your car is bad??? Anyway, if you put a price on your fun, it isn't fun anymore...Coop

$$ values

I really haven't spent that much yet due to the fact that I am still fairly green in the heli area plus I received most of heli items in trade for plank stuff. I still do the planks as well but things will have to slow down (a little tiny bit) due to the fact that I hope to be building a house soon. Hmmm, house....loan....maybe I should add the cost of a brand new Freya into the mortgage!Hehehehe! While I'm at it, I might better ad in the cost for a turbine conversion for ir as well! Bahahahaha! Time for the nuthouse!

Getting Paid to Golf is NICE!!

When I was in college, I had a golf scholarship. Nothing like getting paid to do what you love.....(Curtis and the other pros know what I mean ).

When I graduated, and stopped getting paid for it, it got much more expensive. I'm not the kind of person who likes to spend money and then have nothing to show for it in the end.

You can get a great 60 size heli for the same price as most good sets of golf clubs..........then compare a couple of gallons of CP to greens fees and tell me who is ahead of the game.

I have been golfing since I was 10 and I have been flying helis for 1.5 years................THIS IS MY ADDICTION NOW!!!!!!!

Back in the '60s I was learning to fly the real thing. $15 dollars got you a plane and one hour of instruction. It's hard to imagine that, even at that price, I was strained financially. So I decided to take up RC instead. After a year of no success, I finally got one plane to stay in the air for 1 full minute. I worked out the cost per hour and it came to over $8,000! I went back to the cheaper alternative and got my license. But I came back to RC eventually, and I don't want to know (nor my wife to know) how much I have spent since. ( I own six helis and 23 planes and 5 radios). I also own a real plane but I prefer spending time with the little fella's.

I've skipped car and student loan payments a few times in the past to pay for stuff I wanted.

Do I qualify???

Usually it was because I was in between pay days and I knew that a check with overtime was coming to cover things but I needed the stuff now. The student loan payments were no big deal as long as the time wasn't excessive but I found out you need to call the bank and give them some excuse for the late car payment .

This is my cheapest hobby.

Compared to the jet skis and a custom snowmobile this is probably been one of my cheapest hobbies. A saturday of fun on the skis or the sled is $100 plus then you have to repair or give it the extra boost as somebody out did you on the hill. That usually hit $100-$300 a crack. Yes R/C has been my cheapest by far. The house did put a serious damper on it though. It was great when I had no rent and everything went into the hobbies.

Thanks Scott S.
