RJX Hobby Hurrican 50 - Xtreme 50 > Another Hurrican Build

I have been in search of a higher quality, 50 sized kit for most of the winter, pondering between the Hurrican, JR Airskipper, Qww Quick50. I have thought about the ZeroG frame for my Raptors. I look at my friends 90s, a Synergy, Raptor 90SE, all of these high quality beautiful machines, wishing there was a 50 that would match up to the quality and detail without breaking the bank.

I think I have found it.

I have made my mind up and have ordered the Hurrican 50 in G10 with metal head, metal tail and 80 duro dampners. I placed the order at 7PM Pacific Time, (yes, Rusty returned my call that late, from Illinois, on a Sunday Night!!!!!!!)(Oh and yes, my name is Rusty as well "hey Rusty this is Rusty" kind of weird huh?)

We spent the better part of an hour going over my order and massaging the one kit he had in stock to fit my needs. This is a company that is very attentive to their customer's wants and needs. Rusty then put my order together last night and shipped it out first thing this morning, via Priority Mail, at my request. The only thing better would have been able to go make my desired purchase in person and walk out with my stuff, but the drive would take the fun out of it (2000 miles or so).

Needless to say, I am on the edge of my seat waiting for my kit to arrive, all parts sitting on my bench, Hyper50, 601, 9451s, Radix blades, all just waiting for their new home.

I will post my build log here, and my opinion, of what I fully expect to be a fine ship.

I can't wait,

Rusty

Welcome to the club. I got my kit in the mail last Tuesday. You are in for a very happy ending!

After you start building this thing you will understand what I am talking about. It's all about quality. You will feel like you are putting together a top of the line 90 ship! It's that good.

If it fly's anything like it looks we are in business!

Talk about service, Rusty has over-nighted me a few things since we have met. I actually called (to leave a message) one night about 9:00PM Pacific Time. He answered the phone (which was 11:00PM) his time and took my order. AWSOME GUY and SUPPORT! He even knows what the hell he is talking about. He is not just an order taker like many of these companies out there. He is one of us!

On top of that, If Rusty is not available; you can always get a hold of Clyde. He is the RJX rep. We have had countless e-mails back and forth helping me dial and customize my new Hurrican.

Bottom line guys, RJX are the real deal! Give them some time to get these kits out there and I think the proof will be in the pudding.

It took me about 18 hours to build the ship including dial indicating the motor. Unfortunately I had to go back to work before I could get her up in the air. I will have detailed photos for everybody by the end of the week.

I have to chime in here, Rusty has over nighted a couple packages to me as well for support (one Saturday delivery). I really appreciate the support and confidence in his product. I don't think you will get that level of support from other manufactures... Just my .02 cents

Where can we see pictures of one of these?

Rusty,

You gonna let me thrash it, ah, er, I mean fly it?

Hey Guys,

As Sam mentioned if Rusty is ever tied up please feel free to email me cfoxjr@earthlink.net or PM me, I'm on the east coast in Florida and I work from home so if I'm not tied up or traveling for work I usually check the forums throughout the day.

I also share the same passion for Heli's as Rusty does so please ask away

Build photos

I reworked the math, I worked on the ship for about 8 hours yesterday, with minimal distractions. The build is going very smooth. Parts are fitting well. This is a very "tight" kit. I am impressed so far. This thing looks like a 90 sitting on my bench.

As it arrived

Unpacking

More unpacking

Airframe together

4mm Jesus Bolt

Time to call it quits for the night

The tail, which side have the rest of you run the fin on??

First and second day of flying

3-2-07 day: First day of flying, burned 2 tanks hovering around with no canopy. Then a complete going over for loose stuff. Good first impression, want to get upside down, but not w/o canopy.

3-2-07 at night: Go over ship find acouple of loose fastners, nothing serious. I noticed that the tail gear mesh seems tight, will fix tomorrow. I tried to put the canopy on and ran into trouble. The tray looks spacious, but there is no head room in there. I had two strong boxes mounted, but that would not fit, manage to fit one strong box with rx mounted inside frames where mech mix stuff would mount. this seems like it will work out, need to order second gyro tray to mount here. It would be nice to have a shelf that you could mount to both sides ie. battery underneath, gyro brain on top(in strong box) Did I mention I like strong boxes? I might try taking out some of the cross bracing in the shelf and mount battery inside the bottom.

3-3-07 I spent 5 hours at the field. Flew 5 tanks in the Hurrican and two in the Raptor. After some tuning and increasing cyclic pitch the Hurrican is flying very well, on rails, it tracks really well and will hover hands off for 10 seconds.

The extra pound of weight(over the Raptor) is noticable, and although you can get more that 13deg + and - on the collective, it is more than my hyper 50 will do. I flew with 13deg, 12deg, and 11deg, and 12 seems to be the happy spot.

I also played with head speeds from 1800-2100 and 2100 is the best.

I notice that the mixture seems to lean out quite a bit past about 1/4 tank

I also loosened the gear mesh to the tail and noticed an increase in power from that.

This thing is awesome to auto, it hangs like a 90, much better than my Raptors.

I am overall happy, and I think with some more time on this it will live up to my expectations

Painted up now

Here is my first attempt at painting a canopy. Turned out ok, I will add lettering once it gets here from Callie, then another couple of coats of clear.
