e-Electric Motors & Controllers > Hacker or Plettenberg Motor

Since my plans for a nice vacation in Rome fell through, I will be building a Logo 20. Just wondering which will be a better motor a Hacker or the Plettenberg brushless motor?

Thanks Jason

I am not familiar with the Plettenburg motors but the Hacker B50 20XL and B50 15 XL both will work well.
I believe with the Plettenburg you would use a 300-25-A3H.

B50-20XL is a mild motor setup on the Logo 20. I would go B50-15 or 16XL for any type of aerobatics.

I have seen a few plettenberg 300-25-A3 setups, and they produce excellent power while maintaining reasonable flight times on 24 cells.

Also the Kontronik Tango 45-08 is an excellent choice for 24cells.

Logo 20 Motor Selection

I have just completed a thorough test of several motors: Hacker B50-20XL, Aveox 46/30/3, Kohler Acro 24-4, Kontronik Tango 45-08, and Plettenberg 300/25/A3 Heli. Hands down, the Plettenberg wins. The Tango threw a magnet during mild testing, and I know of several others that have done the same thing. The Hacker and Aveox need supplemental cooling, and the Hacker 20 is much too mild and not as efficient as the others at higher currents.

The Kohler is close to the performance of the Pletti, but requires an awkward adaptor and is still not as efficient as the Pletti. The Plettenberg manages to maintain good efficiency at the lower current draws during hovering, but is still efficient at current draws up to 48 amps. It has a built in fan, so it does not get hot and is extremely well made. It is the most costly, but I think the extra reliability and performance are more than worth it!

The older Tango45 had the thrown magnet problems. Current motors have been redesigned to correct this problem. There are a few flying locally, all with excellent power.

Thanks

It seems the Plettenburg motor will be the one.

Thanks Stephen,Sparky and BIGRCR.

Sparky,
Have you done any testing on the Plettenberg motors for the Logo 10?
It seems impossible to get the Hacker motors for the Logo 10. I am setting one up for 3D on 12 cell 2600's. Any suggestions.

plettenbergs are just as hard to get as the hackers, but i love my 300/25/A3 in my logo 20.

sparky50, do you have any data from your tests that you can share with us? did you just flight test them, or was there some "lab" testing as well?

cheers,
ben

how would the pletti 300/25/a3 perform on 20 cells in a logo 20 for 3d?
i have 20 cell packs made up and really dont want to change them.

I really like the Pletti in my Logo 20. Im using the Hacker B50-15XL in my Raptor 50 conversion and I have been tempted to try it in the lighter Logo 20. BUT, I get over 7-10 minutes of aerobatics using 24 cells on the Pletti now and I see no reason to change! Lots of power, and very good run times!

I use to fly my Pletti on 20 cells (300/25/A3 just likes yours Novaman). It was sedate and could do basic aerobatics, but 3D the way we Americans fly is really only possible on 24 cells with this motor. Ralf (Mikado designer) uses lower headspeeds much like 20 cells would produce and can do VERY smooth 3D. But that takes a LOT of skill. The Pletti really needs 24 cells to shine in 3D.

If you want to use 20 cells only in your Logo, the Hacker B50-15XL is the better motor. On 20 cells, it puts out a smidge more power than the Pletti does on 24 cells. BUT, the Hacker will just get 5-6 minutes on 3000s, whereas I still get 7-10 minutes on the Pletti depending how I feel like flying. The Pletti will fly on 20 cells, but it really, really shines on 24! For 3D and 20 cells, the Hacker wins hands down.

jason,

thanks for the info, i didn't get a pletti yet, trying to find one....
i guess i will be changing my packs to 24 cells.

Or go with the Hacker B50-15XL and keep 20 cells You get more power with this motor on 20 cells than the Pletti on 24 cells - albeit, you get a little less flight time.

If you havent gotten an ESC, I would highly recomend the Hacker Master 48 amp heli for 8-30 cells. It handles the current draws in the 20 a lot better than the Schulze 35Ho.

i have a hacker 15xl and 48-3p controller. lasted 5 flights then quit in forward flight. i sent them back to hacker and was told the speed control was bad. a new speed control was sent out at half price, i wasn't happy with that. well i installed the motor and controller in the logo and went out to the field and it wouldn't work, the blades barely turned. after a couple tries the speed control started smoking. i think there is a problem with the motor so i am not going to buy another controller and burn it up too, i believe hacker should have checked the motor also, and probably didn't. i know the hacker motors are good from everybodys comments, and would like to use them, but the service wasn't acceptable in my case.
now just trying to find a pletti, i got a new logo 20 and r50 waiting for motors.
