Mark,

I totally understand what you are saying. But I think there has to be a way to provide that information without running into the issues you mention. Maybe as a first level, indicate any instances of data hold and / or failsafe since they are not always obvious in flight if they are brief. Or only provide an indication of data hits above a certain threshold.

If I am the only one who wants confirmation of the integrity of the data link, so be it. But I have to think it could be turned into a major selling point.

Mr Beard, why is it taking so long to get the 14mz modules shipped? The retailer I have mine preordered from keeps bumping the ship date back. When I asked them what was up, the answer is that Spektrum is the one who keeps bumping the ship dates back. It doesn't appear that these modules would be any more difficult to build than the others so what's up?

DW,
The 12Z/14MZ modules are next to ship. I think that they should be here next week.

Mr Beard, should I just go ahead and order the new JR X9303 or wait (how much longer) for your new DX7/2 with many of the requested fancy bits including li-po power etc?

Ok, I rethought about all my request ideas, I will settle for just one, I want a an object oriented C++ callback API, this way, I can write my own mixes, swash types, expos, etc, and for every flight mode.

ok, I am done, thank you.

Yes but then you have to interface with the eprom in the DX7 to write the new programming. Is there a way of doing this? Can the service people update the firmware?

A mini usb port on the side would be nice. Downloading and updating firmware would be a real asset. It would reduce and create support calls for Horizion thats for sure. I know I would pay more money for a radio that had this type of feature.

Tips & tricks...

Hi !

I´m following this tread...have a Dx7 + 3 AR7000.

There are some issues that Im woundering about, but the answer isnt at spektrum site or in the manual for dx7.

Could it be a good idea to either have a own tread with questions, or shoot them here so that spektrum could put the answers at their site.
I guess I could contakt spektrum, but I guess a lot of the issues are the same to most people so It would be nice to find it at spektrum´s site.

Fore example, in my Evo50 I started to wonder if the electronics in the receiver and/or satellite receiver could be disturbed by other electronics...? In the same location where my satellite receiver ended up I first tried the Futaba GY401, but it got totaly confused by being close to the trottel servo, even tried with a metal plate between. Now my satellite receiver is in the position that the GY401 didnt like.

I see that the receivers antennas dont get disturbed by other freq´s but are we shure that nothing inside these receivers get disturbed by magnetic´s and fields from other parts.
Is it possible that the range decreases if I put the remote receiver close to a strong servo or something similar?

Does it not matter att all, or is it bad to have other electronis close to the receivers small antennas ?

It's been said, but another vote for:

In order of my prefered importance.
1) USB to download settings to your computer.
2) USB to update firmware from Spektru
3) Assianable switches.
4) Better balance point for nec strap.

The DX7 is really a great improvement in reliabilty against lockouts/glitches. And no channel conflicts (Freq Pins).

Support bacteria. They're the only culture some people have. !

Here's a solution for the balance - I'll order one as soon as they are available.

edit - looks like they may be available now!

This neck strap adapter is not the ideal solution but it is neat and a pretty good idea!

Is there any word from Spektrum about whether or not a throttle stick timer is in the offing.... either for an upgraded DX7 or a new transmitter? Paul? It wouldn't be that hard to impliment in firmware.

Obviously, the lack of one did not stop me from buying a DX7. But I find it a MAJOR annoyance that I lost that function when I switched from my Futaba 9C. And of course now that I am used to the much faster system response time of the DX7 compared to the 9C, I am not about to go back to the 9C with a Spektrum module.......

All the other suggestions on this thread are good ideas but the lack of a stick timer is the big one for me.

Having converted my "fleet" to 2.4 using my trusty DX-7 I also feel that the only thing missing is a stick timer.

It is not a problem for heli's, but for planks a stick timer would be darn useful.

As for glitch-free flying: the last one to be converted was a Multiplex Twister EDF which using my FF-9 on 35Mhz I could not get glitch-free. Since switching over to DX-7/AR-7000 I have had no glitches anymore.

Ralf

i'd like a full lenth hold switch like on my 10x i used to fly, as well as a seperate rud. dual rate switch.

I would like the programing to include being able to slave the toggle switches for ail and elevator dual rates to other tasks. I have an ap2000i and it would be so much easier to set up if you could slave the switches to different functions

After a throttle stick timer, the thing I would like to see on the next Spektrum transmitter is a re-thinking of the ergonomics. I know this is a major tooling effort but if we are talking about the future of RC......

Why are the switches where they are on just about all RC transmitters? They are in just about the WORST place they could be if the idea is to access them while flying. While flying, my fingers are along the sides and to the rear of the transmitter. The switches are in the front. With the exception of maybe the flight mode and throttle hold switches (which I can operate with the side of an index finger because I fly thumbs), I have to take my finger(s) off the stick(s) to operate a switch. Not an easy task if flying anything that requires significant pilot input. The switches need to be placed so they can be operated while flying, and that means on the sides or back somehow.

I think radios are really designed for pinchers not thumbers - Glad I'm a pincher as the switch layout is perfect for me

Maybe this is a preview of the look of the next generation of Spektrum radios?

Mr Beard,

Do you have any information regarding the problem we are having with your MZ modules? The one mentioned here might be related and it was mentioned that there might be a programming change that will cure these problems. Any comment?

Gday guys, great thread. Ive got a low tech question, will my DX7 be affected by sticking lead weights to the outer back case? I want to do this, and the neck strap adapter mod, so the radio feels a bit more like my venerable(but slow) 9zap. Luv the fact i can use a lipo on a receiver, ABOUT TIME! Cheers, Chris.
Ps,, Mr Beard, keep up the great work!!

simple antenna improvement?

I notice that in the Futaba 6EX 2.4 FASST manual, they say the antenna should be kept straight for best gain. So I'm inferring that a straight antenna is also a Spektrum requirement. Seems I'm always inadvertently bending them while taking off the canopy etc while working on the model.

Is there any technical reason why the Spektrum Rx antennae could not be made of springy bright and stiff wire? Would you see any problem in replacing the existing antenna with a piece of 20 swg wire off an old RC toy antenna?

On the Tx, I would love a simpler antenna that could be stored away so to prevent damage in transit/storage - maybe it could loop back inside the case?
