Has anyone had problems with flybar control arms not staying put?I own a stanard and cs version vigor and the flybar keeps coming loose,I have tryed grinding a notch where the set screw mark was left after tightening up abit and It is almost impossible to get them right on the money,I have used red locktight, and torqued the control arm set screws as tight as they will go and after one/two flights the flybar will move in and out of the carrier about 1/2mm or so(side to side) can't figure it out !I am using the 450mm bar with the grey paddles with the weights about 1/11/2 inches from the head any ideas,I have even put the weights next to the control arms and tightened the heck out of the set screws and still the same,Thanks for any ideas you all may have,Bob

I have not had any of problems your encountering but I would advise you to replace the flybar if you ground flats on it. CS's had some problems in the past with flybar failures. It sounds to me as if you’re inviting a failure. My arms have never moved once tightened down, I would look for another cause.

I remember hearing or reading something a few months ago about a harmonic vibration problem with the 450mm fly bar. I'm running a 500mm and have had no problems at all.

I fly 2 CS, and haven't had the problem you are describing. In the past, after awhile, my flybar has loosened up a tiny bit, from side to side as you describe, and it didn't cause problems. Some say that a slight play in this location will allow for self-centering of the flybar.

Its just a matter of pulling the flybar tight against one control arm as you tighten the 2nd one, to get it snug.

I agree...wouldn't file flats, although the failure point is at the bearing. I am running 500's although i haven't had any problems with the 450's. A friend did however, so i changed em just to be safe.

Thank you to all for the info as far as replacing the flybar have already done so,I have used a clamp on one side while I tightened the set screw with lock tight and still having the problem. As far as a little side to side play,Ithink it would cause vibration, which is not good also causes stress on spacer between arm and bearing, which causes the spacer to bend in the shape of the arm which destroys the bearings,I have tried different paddles.I think I will try the 500mm flybar with the frya paddles as I read some trying,But after replacing the flybar on the standard Vigor and did as above I have had several flights without any problems,so maybe it was just a bad batch of flybars ie softer metal or something like that? Thanks Bob:

Flybar Problem

I had my flybar come off in flight. I have the standard model. It was a very large bange sound. It is not a common problem.

fly bar mod

Have you had a flybar break? Read the whole story...there's more.
I think Dave Storey came up with this fix in order to get more flybar travel. Turns out that it also fixes the problem with flybars breaking. Look at what stops the flybar from pivoting more in the center hub. Cut it away however you can. Mine was done on the bench at a funfly by Scott Cathey. He used an Xacto knife with a #11 blade! He just cut the aluminum away until the flybar came to within an inch of the canopy. Be sure to remove material from both sides, top and bottom equally. You might be surprised how easily the knife cuts the aluminum. Just don't get in a hurry. I like the knife method because you don't get grinding dust spread out all over the head.

Once you have the flybar moving more, you'll notice one of the links hit on the yoke at the bolt hole. The bolt head is surrounded by plastic at this point. Cut a little of the plastic away at the point of contact.

It turns out that Dave is still breaking flybars. The next thing is to try a longer flybar...around 480mm. The mod mentioned above might not have eliminated Dave's problems, but it definitely cut the frequency down.
info came off ron lund wed sight under vigor news hope this helps

when i spoke to curtis about this he said he uses red locktite to fix it ,what he does is wipe the flybar down with acetone and then apply a little red lock tite to the flybar before he slides it into place ,he lets it dry over nite before he flys .the red locktite grabs the bar and hold it in place so it doesn 't move until you heat it up with a blow dryer to release the bond...he does all his bearing this way it takes all the side to side play out...hope this helps ..mike...
