after many hours of designing, coding, machining, and breaking the occasional 4-40 tap it is almost ready for test flight. 3 blade main, 4 blade tail, 54" disc, 62.5" tip to tip, weighs a little over 8 lbs. waiting on a cc hv85 and a belt. should all be here by the end of next week. then the real fun begins, fly, rev2, build build build. fly, rev3... final... fly fly fly... test test test... eventually might make it to production.

You keep breaking the Taps because those are metric screws!

Looks interesting. Good luck on the project.

is that why those screws fit soo tight?
yes, it is a stock dewalt 36v lipoly pack. I plan on charging through the stock charge/discharge port and discharging through a pair of leads that I will hack in where dewalts voodoo all in one monitor connector connects. flight time will only be about 4-6 min on a charge in this configuration.. I plan on building a new case to house a 14-16 cell configuration and still utilize the rail mounting system.
thanks for the interest and comments.

speed control showed up today (CCHV85)... finished the tail belt idlers and the main drive, still waiting on the tail belt from gates. need to make a decision on a gyro soon.. suggestions? dual rate is nice, but I rarely fly in HH mode.

It's like something off of Batfink.

weight as of right now, rtf minus gyro and tail drive belt, via digital bathroom scale 8.2 lbs. looking to drop some weight but it's kind of hard when the battery alone weighs a little over 2lbs.

just an update.. started trimming it in , flys great tail is a little hot but plenty manageable. was flying small patterns with it.. all was great, kind of had that almost paniced yet happy all giddy feeling inside. finished a couple 8's landed it about 20 feet to my left in the street. made a couple radio adjustments, started spooling it up, and then the very ugly happened......... POW the blades disentegrated and let go at the root. one landed across the street another almost to the front of the house, and the last one ricocheted off my leg and continued another 35 feet.
the blades were AEROTECH 600 WOODIES. they broke right at the stress riser that was made where they cut the mylar for the grip shims. bad deal... currently waiting for 3 pairs of carbons to get in stock. have to make new swash to grip links along with main shaft and tail shaft. everything else survived rather well, considering the amount of energy that was suddenly and violently released. really glad no one got hurt gould have been very very bad.

obviously not well enough, although the stress riser where they were kiss cut was almost .060 deep. a little excessize for a blade who's full cord hieght is only .305 tall

Hmm. I used to CA the wood then epoxy the grips to the CAd wood.

The thin CA would wick into the wood really well.

I sincerely apologies for hijacking your thread, however you seem to be the right person to consult on a project of mine.

Have you looked into building smaller helicopters? I am trying to piece together a large but light weight 300 size electric biased on a modified Skyartec 200 sized helicopter frame, I would like to stretch the tail boom enough to keep the tail rotor from interfering a set of 260mm blades off of a Walkera 22e which are 30% larger that the stock blades for the Skyartec 200XE.

I have not yet determined where I will obtain a 2mm belt with enough length to allow for this modification (but I would like to find an off the shelf part as apposed to having one made special order if at all posible) Do you know the belt with of the Honey Bee King or belt CP?

I have have not looked too far into what my head and tail speeds should be or how to achieve the proper ratios (about 1:4 seems to be common), it is likely that I will have to use a combination of main gear and tail drive pulley that may not come factory preassembled for any particular helicopter rather a combination of parts from different manufacturers and models with some modification to allow them to work together.

I also need to find a ling 8mm tail boom.. 9mm deems to be the most common, so I may just end up trying to find some 8mm tubing and cut it to length..

sorry again for hijacking your thread, I would really appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

mine? Tail boom? no the tail holds just fine. there is almost 2 in seperating circles. with a 4.6:1. the heli flies great with 620's, in fact I have it set up with piles of expo right now for a little more scale flight. with expo off it is a drag race rocket. I am currently considering selling the 3rd generation 4th copy of that heli.
