Radio - JR & Spektrum DSM > Is anyone worried........

about the new Futaba system causing our DX6/DX7's interference? If you look at the Tower Hobbies main page they now have a link to Futaba's new radio. In the press release Futaba spends as much time trying to knock their competition as they do telling you about their new radio. I wonder why they feel they have to do that?

I just wonder if they are using the same set of frequencies that the spektrum radios use? It seems to me I saw somewhere that they only hope between 36 frequencies so maybe they are different. I know they are only on a frequency for 2 miliseconds but still seems like the wrong thing to do to me. Transmitting without looking first just doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

Does anyone know if they did extensive test with the Spektrum radios?? I am just a bit concerned.

Any comments??

I spoke with Paul at the LV Funfly today about this and he assured me that they will all work safely together.

According to what it says on Spektrum's site anything that is on the 2.4Ghz band HAS to use collision avoidance, check if the frequency is being used.

It's also possible that if they are on 2.4Ghz that they are using a different set of frequencies.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I don't know enough about either system to make any sort of guess as to how they might play nice together.

I didn't read TFA, but if your numbers are right, the Futaba system would interfere with the Spectrum system 14 times a second. I mean that they would conflict for 2 miliseconds every 72 miliseconds.

The DSM system can use its other frequency during that 2 millisecond period. So no problem there. But what if a second Futaba set is using that second frequency? That's where my ability to make an educated guess breaks down.

I have no idea. But yes, I wonder.

That's kind of what I was thinking. And with only 36 possible frequencies Futabas might even interfere with themselves if there were enough turned on at once. Mathmatically probably slim chance of happening.

The Spektrum way really seems to make more since and seems safer but in the end if they all work together then who cares.

I have just gotten real use to not worrying about frequency control and I love it. Those on 72mhz don't know what they are missing.

I guess we will find out for sure when the first Futaba systems hit the fields next month.

Look at tcip protocol. It works with anything thats tcip. It is a basic set of rules (protocol), that sets a standard. I asume that 2.4 is set up in a simular fashion.

I think the best news yet is here from Augusto's comments from the Las Vegas FF that just ended. The first really big fun fly with over 100 registered pilots - supposedly half using DX7 systems. There was something on the 72mhz band that was sending alot of birds to the dirt but the SS systems were immune. And no apparent interference between each other.

Regarding the questions about the radios above from what I understand despite the very large number of DX7 radios at the event nobody flying a DX7 had any radio issues so this interference was pretty much limited to the 72Mhz band no matter what brand you were flying. I'll ask around tomorrow and find out more info. I'm very happy with the DX7 and I can't wait to get my Futaba equipment switched to the Futaba 2.4GHz spread spectrum system that's coming out soon too.
As far as I'm concerned I'm sold on the new spread spectrum technology and I'm switching all my equipment to 2.4GHz on both Spektrum and the new Futaba 2.4GHz only.

I have a DX7 and am super happy with it. I have been holding on to my 10X until reports were in from some really crowded fun flys using alot of DX7 systems. This was a good one.

I was flying a DX7 at the LV fun fly. There were a lot of pilots!!! And it was sweeeet not to have to be nagged or do the nagging about frequencies. I think everybody not on DX7s were jealous!

There were a lot of Dx7's and I never had a problem turning on and binding or glitches.

We did watch several crashes due to frequency conflicts and/or just random hits. I believe Danny Szabo suffered a lockout on his 14MZ and stuffed it!

Good funfly for the most part, I won't comment on how smoothly things ran , but it was fun overall, DX7 definitely is needed at these things and was a godsend!

fwiw..

GUID protocols apparently render the SS technologies almost foolproof...I'm waiting for fool 2.0...The Vegas funfly proved the existing technology works, and works very well...No waiting for frequencies, and no real need to impound radios...Who is it here that says, "I was Spektrum before Spektrum was cool."....Looks like us early adopters might have been right on this one!!
