I was wondering how low anyone has taken it.

I am not sure about the DX, but I WONT fly below 9.8 on my Jr 7202. Below that the volts go QUICK.

Actually they'll hold 9.6V, an 8 cell packs nominal voltage, for quite some time. If you actually plot out the voltage of a Nicad or NiMH pack over time (which I used to do to check my batteries condition) you'll see it drop fairly quick from the 11V or so fresh off the charger to the 10V or so area, then the drop to the 9.6V range is much slower. When it gets close to the 1.1V to 1.15V/cell range then it starts to fall pretty quick.

I've gone done as low as 9.3V on a few occasions. I don't recommend doing that regularly but your certainly safe at 9.6V, I usually pop it on the quick charger when I get down to 9.7V just to be safe.

Thanks for your detailed post. I have noticed that right off the charger it is at 11+ but it does fall off that mark quickly. That is what prompted my question because it fell off the top so quick. Thanks again.

Have a look inside and check which batterypack your DX7 was delivered with. Here in Norway we get a 1500mAh NiMh, a friend overseas got one with a 1100 mAh NiCad, they behave different and last shorter, but NiCad has a better reputation in cold weather.

I thought all had a 1500 mah NiMH but apparently not. That's a good point about the cold. NiCad does have many advantages of NiMH and one is the amount of self discharge. Cold will make that worse. An 1100 mah NiCad is still going to last a good long time considering that we used to have to live with 700mah or less not long ago.

Mine got down to 9 volts and started beeping quite loud and flashing "LOW BATT" on the screen. Took mu time landing and nothing bad happened.

My 2 tests on how long the batterys lasts,
http://runryder.com/helicopter/t321...?top=1171503786
shows that when you have used so much juice that the alarm sounds, that is at 9 Volts, then you will have just 300 mAh left in the pack. I guess that if you want a safe journey you should not go very much below 9.5 Volts before you recharge.
just my 2 cents

I live in southern California so I am lucky I don't have to deal with real low temps. I grew up in northern Minnesota now that's cold. The amount of flights I get in a day I don't think I will have a problem with transmitter voltage it seems
Thanks
