Alternative...

Woah, this mode 3 and mode 4 stuff is doing my head in!

But as an aside, given the short antenna on the 2.4GHz stuff, have any of you tried taking a regular mode 1 or 2 (depending on your preference) , holding it with the aeriel point toward you, and inverting the servos?

just a thought....

That's funny. That's what I have to do when I'm at a friends house or an LHS to fly their sims. You think you get strange questions at the field -- try flying a sim tx upside down and see what gets asked.

I usually say it makes flying backwards and inverted easier.

After changing mode from 1 to 3 (changed wires on the pots) i had the ail and rudder not centering perfectly. I went in the service menu and recalibrated center and sticks. Now everything centers perfectly.

take a look here: http://runryder.com/newreply.htm?topicid=322783

hey guys..just got my mode 1 DX7 the other day and im going to attempt to do the change myself. I opened the back up and saw two sets of 3 cables. Are these the "pot" cables that I have to swap? Are they the red-black-blue set and the yellow-blue-black set? These look like only the trim control cables. Where are the 2 sets of cables which I believe are the pot cables?? Do I have to take apart anything else to get to them? Thanks for any help on this!

OK..lets re-phrase the question here. Where would the aileron and rudder wires be on the gimbal pots? I was assuming I would see them just by removing the cover. Could anyone tell me how to get to them?

What i did on mine is switch the 3 cables on the bottom from left to right and vice versa. Only down side of what i did is that i now have cross trims on aileron and rudder, but i really don't care because i never use rudder trim and aileron trim is used only on first setup flights.
So far i have about 100 flights with this mod and everything works perfect.

After the switch i went into service menu and recentered the sticks just to make sure everything is ok.

Corrado..

So are these the ONLY wires you swapped? I updated the drawing to show what I think you mean...

to me it seems this would only change the trim assignments...i could be wrong of course..

Hello everyone,

I too fly mode 3 on helicopters, had to switch my DX6 around as well, elongate wires and reverse polarity of the potentiometers.

Now, I've got another problem...I fly aileron planes on mode 1, rudder planes on mode 3.

The fun part about that would be if i were to buy a DX7 and try to fly helis and planes with it...I will be stuck, as all the mixers will fight each other if i change hardware.

So, hopefully there will be a DX9 soon where you can choose all your modes software wise, I heard that you are able to change modes with the radio that the DX7 is based on, but that feature had been taken out by request of Horizon...but, maybe there is a menu hidden somewhere and that option still exists?

Also, on my primary radio back in Europe (Graupner MC 15) you were able to switch modes AND able to just plug the wires inside onto different circuit boards...a feature to think of for later models of transmitters...but I guess the masses don't need that and it will go overboard due to cost...

Have fun switching your radios around and I definitely feel your pain...but hey, a little challenge in that hobby is what we all are looking for anyway...

Hey Mode3...

I'm happy to report everything went great (surprisingly). Of course I have the trim settings on the opposite sides now but it doesnt bother me. I also had to re-calibrate the centers but that was easy. All is well I'm pysched to have a Mode 3 DX7!!

Hey Orion,

Great too here all OK Its a great radio isn't it.

Don't you just love GLITCH FREE Flying , Now i know when i crash ,it's my fault not the radio !

Just do the same with the 3 trim wires on both sides and all will be as it should (If you can be bothered)

I find it much better especially considering we trim the elev & Roll
with left hand.

I think it would be a pain to trim the way you have it currently. we don't want to take our eyes off the beast for a second if possible.

Regards MODE3

Hey Mode3...

It is a great radio. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to fly with it yet. Weather has been too cold for flying here in the Northeast. Could you elaborate on exactly what wires I would have to swap for the trim funtions? The ones I swapped were the wires behind the trim buttons. Thanks!

gori, those jumpers you pointed out are purely for switch rerouting depending if you got the set in Mode 1 or mode 2.

Thank you Mac_Man.
It is rerouting of the switch.
I see.
However, it is regrettable because it differed.
