New & Emerging R/C Helicopters > Aurora competition (Kalipso90) ??

I have heard rumors that there is another 90 that is supposed to release later and compete with the Aurora90. I have heard that the Kalipso90 is going to be stiff competition. I haven't seen pictures or heard who will be manufacturing the kit, but I was told that supposed to be a very light and attractive package for under $1000. All carbon fiber and aluminum out the box. I was also told that it will come with a new head design that can react as well as the CX head and is just as adjustable. Can anyone else confirm anything? Has anyone heard anything about it? I can't find anything online and I was hoping someone here would know something.

The Aurora already has helis to compete against such as the the Vibe and the synergy, and there will always be new things on the horizon. But it was a Vibe that won the 3D masters and XFC last year wasnt it? Dont get me wrong im not trying to knock this heli, it may very well be my first 90 machine, im in debate at the moment between it and the synergy, put dont plan on buying until mid summer or fall anyways so im in no hurry.

If memory serves me correctly the Aurora demos weren't even flying at 3dm or xfc last year.

I haven't been around Vibes much but I don't expect the Synergy to be much competition for the Aurora.

Did some searching on the web and it appears this may be the name of a Kasama prototype. After looking at a bunch of stuff in languages I didn't understand, I found the above link to good Ol' RR. Not sure this is one you you're talking about but I did see the name Kalipso (or maybe Calypso) associated with one of the posts.

Kasama is working on a 50 size machine, not 90 as far as I know.

Best way to predict the future, is to Invent it.

That's what I thought as well, but one of the sites I saw made mention of a 90. Still not sure this is the one LadyMagic is referring to, but I thought I'd mention it.

Chen Zarfati won the 3d masters and Scott Gray won XFC, both those guys fly Vibes. Also Jason Krause does lots of things with his Synergy that I will never be able to do with a heli. I dont see why those helis woudnt be good enough for 99% of the heli flyers out there. Again im not saying the Aurora wont be awesome, just saying there are other good helis out there, and dont forget that Avants that are already out there.
Also with the Kasama, I also was under the impression they were working on a 50 and not a 90, but maybe things have changed, given that it wouldnt take long for a blinged 50 to be almost as much as a 90 Aurora or Synergy.

I just got back for the LVFF and watched 4 team Avant Aurora's crash and burn with what looked like mechanical failures...including Alan Szabo.

I was all about the Aurora until I saw that. Somebody said it earlier, any of the current 90 heli's will satisfy 99 percent of the population.

The most impressive pilot there in my opinion was Lukas Riva who fly's a Vibe.

Ghostrider, interesting statement!!!!!

I have a few questions for you.

1) Do you know of someone who may have any video of these events?
2) Are you aware that the Avant Aurora is still in Testing "until final release that is)thats if this claim is true.

Well I said before that most of the other helis could do what most of us want them to do, which I still beleive to be true. But at the same time I also agree that you must consider that the Aurora is still in testing, and any crashes during this time must be taken with a grain of salt, possibly they were trying something new when these machines failed, again if indeed this happened. I do beleive this will be a great heli when it finally is released, and maybe I will even own one. But some people just seem to think this heli will make them such better pilots, but I have not seen any videos of your everday flyer piloting one of these machines. Alan Szabo can do lots of things with a Raptor or Trex that I wont be able to do with either a Synergy, Vibe, Stratus, or Aurora. So lets just hope it is indeed a good machine, I really like the programable head, and would consider one now if I could get an all in one kit with the current Avant stuff, I just dont like the current stuff as you need to mix parts from two different helis, not that they arent great flying machines. For me it will come between the Aurora, Synergy or Freestyle, I know no one mentions this heli, but the I love the look of the Freestyle canopy and even it can do anything I am capable of. The vibe and stratus are also great helis, just heavy on price.

Nasscar,

Correction: I came home on Sat and witnessed 4 crahses. My buddy told me Sunday was even worse. New total for the LV-FF Aurora Crashes = 9 Again, in my opinion, these all seem to be mechanical failures but this is not confirmed! Nobody was talking.

As far as video, I know Mark Ryder along with many other people were filming most of the flying. I don't know if you will see any of it though.

Not 9 crashes, there was 5 Aurora crashes. Two of them were due to radio interference, and the other 3 were as follows. One had a ball link pop, another had a torque tube failure on its 23rd flight at the fun fly, and the 3rd had an engine related failure.

Sunday Chet had a crash because he hit the vertical fin on the ground which broke the plastic Hirobo tail case during a low pass, but it was not an Aurora, it was his EFX with an Aurora canopy, and Danny had an engine flameout which forced him into a hard downwind auto with minor damage.

This information was already posted by Augusto on his Saturday report on the Las Vegas funfly Thread.

We certainly had a blast and logged an incredible number of flights.

thanks Alan for chimming in, it's nothing like a Aurora hatter prior to it's release.

What do they actually expect people to "not" buy one when they are released?

even if they had been Avant failures I wouldnt hold that against them, as long as its during R&D you guys can crash hundreds of them, once they are released to the general public, then you need good reliability, thats all that matters to me. Thanks for the clarification Alan, those radio problems, they need to learn from your son and go Spektrum Cheers
