Ok boys and girls,
When we have more than one heli programed in the same radio, make sure that the heli that is running on the ground waiting to fly is the same one that is turned on in your radio, not the one at home still in a pile assorted parts waiting to be put together. dont ask how I know this.

Stupidity

Don't feel like the lone idiot, I've done the same thing. Fortunately, the only control reversed was the t/r, and I was able to get it back down in one piece. Steve.

Remember to turn the reciever on too!

My first visit to the local field to see helis fly was an interesting one. My buddy turns his radio on, fires up his Raptor 60 carries it out a few steps, puts it down, blades spool up, the heli starts getting "light" right away and he realizes that he's got no control over it! He forgot to turn the heli on!!! The heli is doing this weird dance on the ground, not quite lifting off and not quite settled on the ground. My buddy jumps over to it and tries to "palm" the blades down. After a few seconds he's able to bleed some momentum off the blades and just when I thought he had it, the Raptor does this phenomenal WWF wrestling reversal on him and cart wheels a few times. Blades missed his head by an inch or so. Luckily no one got hurt except the Rappy.

Been there

Yep - I had two Rappy 30's on the same radio - told them apart by RapBlu (the Blue one) and RapYel (the yellow one) ... Crashed the yellow one, scaveneged some parts from old Blu - including the canopy.... you know the rest... Ha ha had 9202s on one and JR 517s on the other so they were all reversed... Caught it just as it lited off.. Not pretty...

One more thing..........

When you pack up the heli and flight gear make sure that you bring your transmitter to the field with you too. I will confess to this.

Hmm. Sounds familiar

Looking over the list above, it seems I have done most of those things at one time or another.
They say we learn from our mistakes, so I must be a genus by now.

Turning reciever on

Well, all of our engines need to be masseaged while carring them out, so putting the heli down with the reciever off is kind of hard for us. BUT not so on a gas boat. I felt kind of stupid pulling the starter and tossing it in the water and Danny telling me he doesnt have it. Had to hop in the real boat at lake mead and chase it, and run along side of it to turn the switch on. Needless to say this was done by old dad not once but twice.

I saw a guy getting engrossed in a loooooong touch and go at a float flying event and touched and went out of radio range !

the plane went faster and faster with no controle and started bouncing on the water and eventually got airborne and as the plane got altitude he managed to regain controle and landed.

Heli 101 -- Pre-flight Check!

Ok Guys, so I do have my shares of my Boo Boos..
Not too long ago, I took my X-cell out since it was a pretty nice winter weekend, thinking of going for a little bit of fun chasing the squirrels in the park. What happened was, I was so eagar to get the engine fire up since it was only a block away from my house, I already have the heli all fuel up, only thing i have to do is just turn on the radio and connect the glow to fire up.
Just as the engine started it SCREAM!! to maximum ..Lucky I have my hand on the blade grip, pulled the fuel line and killed the engine. After the engine stopped i can see some specks of dust from the clutch ... mmm I think i might have shave a teeny bit of my clutch liner.. hehe. Now! I was wondering as what the sh*t is going on. As It turned out I was fiddling with my nexus the night before. I forgot to set my transmitter radio to x-cell, therefore my throttle servo setting was reversed resulting the HOT Start... luckily after I set my transmitter back to X-cell model, it's back to where it was again. I took it up to hovering position and a little bit of forward flight, look like my clutch still have the MEAT to drive the gear.. CHECK! your tx if you have multiple models, make sure you have use the right model.

I had a 'hot start' just a mounth ago.. I asked one of my fellow flying buddies to hold the TX and give it 'some' throttle.. and he some how accidently managed to bump the Idle Up 3 switch on the TX.. well well.. the result was that I had to get a new liner

well Heli_Gal, you hit it right on the knogn, the night before I was engrossed in the tail rotor set-up on my vigor cs, had the tx on working the t/r servo linkage. the next day after work I was in a hury to get a flight in on my ergo 46 befor the sun went down. all the controls are the same except the elevator.went to spool up and get into a hover and before I could react, up on it's nose and on over, WACK-WACK, there goes a brand new set of cmt 580's, and so on and so forth. I learned a good lesson apout preflight checks, didn't I?

A guy had his Z230 gasser out and wanted me to see how she felt. I asked if he had flown the setup before and he said "YES". Needless to say the aileron servo had been changed out and I rolled her over as soon as she got light on the skids. Afterwards he said he forgot to mention that he changed the aileron servo from a JR to a Futaba.... Of course I said "Thanks". ALWAYS preflight someone elses bird if they want you to "TEST" fly it.

I can confess to doing most of these actions. However, at a competition I was at, a mate had his two Robbe Gassers out. He fueled one up to do his round. Went to get his peg then came back to picked up one of the gassers and took it out. Half way through his round the engine quit and settled to the ground.

He'd picked up the wrong helicopter. The fueled one was still sitting in the pits .

We laughed and laughed!

Failsafe

If you ever move a servo arm to the other side of the servo and then reverse it's direction (Rapror 30 pitch) You must redo your failsafe. It remembers the un-reversed direction. (on Futaba)

Watched a 'failsafed' pattern plane fly in at full throttle because of that. He moved the throttle servo and never checked the failsafe.
