Your Raptor

You need to detail you equipment and your experience level so we can trouble shoot the problem.

What is the main blade pitch at mid-stick?

Make this 5 degrees, then adjust your throttle curve to make it hover there. With 5 degrees on the mains, a Raptor will hover at about 1600 RPM, give or take a 100. The pitch is what controls the helicopter, and the throttle just has to follow along to keep the blades turning at the same RPM. Depending on fuel and exhaust, some engines can make a lot of power, and hovering throttle may well be less than 50%. If your blades are not that good or you are using a muffler and low nitro fuel, or running rich for break in, it could be more than 50%.

Go to www.ronlund.com and read what he says about setting up throttle servos. If you've already done that, good. Otherwise do it. I've helped many new guys get their hovering setup right and almost always it comes good just by setting the pitch, getting the throttle linkage right, then setting the throttle curve to get it to hover at five degrees.

If your voltage is low enough to stop the gyro working then there's maybe a minute before the battery is completely flat. If that happens and it's spun up you have a problem. You wait until the fuel's gone or try and pull off a fuel line or block the exhaust with a long stick. While all this is happening you hope that a wind gust doesn't tip it over.

are you using the built-in pitch gauge on the
machine or an external gauge?

what needle settings are you running, it could also be your clutch. the infamous TT clucthes had a flaw and have a recall on them, I think.
I had my machine screaming on the bench, and in the air. So I popped a spare GV-1 on there and still the same problem, I found out that the clutch was cracked, i pulled on the arm, and wallah, it borke straight off.
Check your clutch.

As for your tail rotor sticking, it could just be your heading hold gyro. I have my gyro switched on the TX so I can flip between HH and regular. If you push the stick back the other way, will the blades move back with the stick? Do some reading on your gyro theory, and it might be more apparent, if that is actually what you are seeing.

YSRrider, where are you located? And do you have a 50, or an 80? Ever raced the YSR? What a hoot.

You said you were in northeast Illinois,
check out this club. http://www.nircha.com/
Maybe you could get in touch with someone there to help you get that Raptor set up. I found them to be a good bunch of guys.

I live in Bradley IL its about 60 miles south of Chicago.
If you were in the area, I could convince a fellow raptor pilot to help me pick your raptor apart bit by bit. We could have it running in tip-top shape in no time.
It is always best to try and diagnose these things face to "face".

How long have you been flying?

Gyro and 8103

The gyro should be connected to Aux 2 not Aux 1.

I am in Belvidere (by Rockford) I have a couple of Raptors and have set up many more. I would be willing to help you out if you are willing to drive to me. I fly in my backyard and have a 1mile by 2 mile field across the street.

What are you using for a throttle curve? I have my raptor setup in normal for a pitch curve of -4, -2, 0, 5.5, 9 with a throttle curve of 0, 15, 25, 50, 100 ( I think). It sounds to me like your using a 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 throttle curve.
