Okay, I'm sold.

I've got my battery and charger on the way. Now I have to decide which version to buy. Can anyone summarize the pros and cons of the Dynatron versus the Hobbico? My sense is that the Dynatron may be more powerful and it looks like the Finer Edge adapter integrates cleaner, but the Hobbico is more compact.

The Dynatron is clearly the better product of the two, with the price to match. ($28 vs $80). When my Hobbico 90 dies, I will replace it with a Dynatron.

It will be interesting to see how long the Hobbico lasts with 18 volts being put through it.

The Dynatron is considered your LAST starter.

The Dynatron is probably a bit heavier as well.

However, when the others are gone the Dynatron lives on.

the finer edge adapter is very well machined (and designed) fit perfect..
the dynatron will require the studs to be shortened by 50% , otherwise , it is PnP
the mat will show scale for those wondering about size

Darksidedave & DJT I have just installed the makita battery adapter by finer edge and by trimming here and there and cutting the original threads down 3/8" I got it up tight against my Dynatron. I talked to Sullivan today and the new 6mm wands will be out in two weeks,I have the new 18v. battery and charger. FYI. Update! I weighed the 18v. battery only on my bathroom scale it is 2 lbs.

Dave, any reason you left the gap between the starter and the adapter?

I've had a sullivan 6mm one way on which the tip has stripped... they sent me a "new version" with hardened tip. And it is hard this time. the old one stripped after couple month of use.

But this was last year... don't know if they did a new-new version

Well, I just got my dynatron set up with this equipment. I was so tired of dealing with my two gel cells, 24 volts, etc.

I picked up a battery and a charger pretty reasonably on Ebay.

Wow.

I actually fly planks most of the time, and this thing cranked my OS 120 Four stroke in a Harrier 90 without even hesitating.

Also cranked my little OS 15 on a delta easily, but didn't destroy it in the process. The light battery makes the starter easy to control.

my advice - spend the money - I'd rather be flying than be aggravated.

great product.

My dynatron got alot of use Sunday,no effort at all on a Stinger50 hyper
also starts Saito 100 in a Twist60 with no problem
It also started my friends Wild Hare Extra/ZDZ with a little help over the first stroke , it was the first time the dynatron got warm enough to notice, but it never dropped rpm or warmed up the Makita li-ion

I managed to smack the Stinger in inverted but only minor damage ,crash kit and blades...
But I really killed the Twist, lol

Ok here is my excuse to get an adapter for my Dynatron. This way I have an excuse to spend even more money on other things as well. http://www.tools-plus.com/makita-lxt400.html

i use a emoli(lithium ion)6 cell pack that i made and velcro'd it to my hobbico starter and only cost me $40.00 to make, this is the cheapest way out if you already have a 6 cell lipo charger.

Have a Heliva Day!

I wonder where they got the idea to put an adapter on a starter? I cut up a Dewalt flashlight and made a mounting plate for my starter over a year ago. I want my royalty money.

I mean the drill battery adapter. I just went through my post and saw it was almost 2 years to the day when I posted pics of my adapter.

Yes, I know what you mean. A battery is a battery. That's the ugliest starter setup I've ever seen.

Which one would you rather use?
