This Popeye Gyrocopter was built by Thierry Olive in France. These two photos was taken during a public demonstration in june 2006 France. It flew very well. Weight is 40 kg, rotor diameter is 4.5m ! The motor is a 150 cc from Desert Aircraft. The rotor speed was recorded at 400 rpm. Home made servo with force up to 100kg each.I don't know what is the used airfoil.

I' ve got about 40 photos of this gyro, taken during first flight.
Thierry Olive is a very goog heli's pilot, and all in this gyro is "home made".
If you are interested by some others photos, send me an e-mail to:

I guess it's just me, but I don't get it?
Why put all that work in something THAT BIG and not fly it yourself?
Oh, well.

I love gyrocopter's. It's fun to watch them fly and when you start them up everybody wants to watch them fly

Yeah thats weird...I thought it was small, till I saw that last picture. Although it's cool I too can't really see the point in going to all the effort of building a near full size gyrocopter and then standing on the ground while a fibreglass popeye(?) get's to fly it.

thats becasue if you build it that big and test it first with popeye then you have the confidence to fly it your self!!

only you have the power to make no difference!

Copy of same thing Keel, Mast, 1 rotor, I want test platform 4 vib2energy converter

I want someone to build something new for an autogyro.
This configuration has been tried (FA62), but not with
two arches in blended wing and body and parafoils for
rotor blades. Why can't we just build a Flugtag for
RedBull this summer. Stitch some Tyvek foils, Kevlar
Carbon fiber arches, pedals, gears, props & flexshafts.
The cost thing keeps me from what I want.
.
;-)
.
- would someone hire a 'Flugtagist'?
.
if this is a new word I will try Wikipedia, but entry is limited to non for profit and this will make a new air generation name if one
is. I will give the flying experience prize to charity (make a wish?)

'Flugtagist-lover of flight in most natural state in a slow single human powered wind surfing machine. Designer, Builder and Pilot using current parts and technology and reconfigure to obtain stable flight.

Current record at RedBull Rules (30'width max) 156'
